Christmas and the New Year are over, and things are returning to normal. I thought I would take this opportunity to reflect on the current state of our favourite radio station before all of the usual daytime suspects are back in place from whatever holiday island/asylum/detox centre the have spent their wages and the last couple of weeks at.
As most of us, I can only compare with what's available locally, so in my case it's radio Blunderside plus a couple of nondescript ILR offerings.
Personally, I think that R2 is in good health, the daytime offerings are varied, unfortunately that include quality as well as music.
Aled is doing a good job covering the dawn Patrol, and while it may be unfashionable, I'm looking sorward to Sarah being back.
Terry goes from strength to strength despite losing the inspiration that was Pauly. Alan Boyd ( or Beryl and Boyd as one American calls him) is doing a cracking job, as do the crew of Deadly, Boggy and Fran.
I only catch both Ken and Jeremy very occasionally, and therefore do not feel that it is right for me to pass comment.
The afternoon has its fans and detractors and I don't think that anything that I say will change any minds. I would, however, like to Chris Evans on earlier, as his delivery is more suited to entertaining those at home in the early afternoon.
The only evening presenter that I feel able to comment on is Mark Radcliffe, he has introduced us to some interesting music, and has Noddy Holder and Rick Wakeman on occasionally to give good comment.
Overall a good, but not brilliant report, but then R2 cannot be all things to all men. _________________ Geddon

It's weird, but I no longer listen long enough to make a full judgement.
However, Terry's show has been excellent with Barrowlands Boyd in charge and I do enjoy Maconie's show on Saturday. I'm looking forward to the new Comedy Hour shows, and though Mark Radcliffe was great last night.
There seems to be interesting slight changes to the Playlist, so more like that and I might listen more often again. Still too much bland 70s stuff, despite all evidence suggesting this isn't what the majority of listeners want. |

It will be good when it's all back to normal and the Bank Holiday stand-ins have gone back.
Terry is in good form and welcome back, I look forward to Sarah, Ken & Chris back, even Steve Wright sometimes instead of the current stand-in.
The various 7pm - 10pm presenters continus as good as normal including Paul Jones, Bob harris etc and Mark Radcliffe continues to provide good music and entertainment. |
