I know this has been referenced elsewhere on these forums but do take a listen to BBC Radio 4's feedback from Sunday featuring an interview with Bob Shennan.
The Feedback show claim to have received no e-mails of praise for the Chris Evans Breakfast Show at all. Bob acknowledged that the show will take some time to bed in but that improvements have already been made. (Having listened throughout the three weeks, Bob is right - there is more 'room' in the show... but it could still do with some feature-trimming).
He was also asked about the Jonathan Ross slot. One correspondent bemoaned the creeping domination of celebrity-led shows and asked if Richard Allinson or Johnnie Walker would be considered for the slot. Bob confessed to having already chosen JR's replacement and said it would be revealed in the spring - however, judging from his reaction, I'd brace yourself for celebrity.
I understand it may be for many reasons out of his control, but Bob Shennan appears to be presiding over even greater damage to Radio 2 than Lesley Douglas. |

I believe it will not be a real DJ with music knowledge. This is why the BBC are not listening to their listeners and viewers. Chasing ratings is what I beleive they are doing. |

Hi Nick,
I'll take a listen later, but I'm astounded by the comment that Ross's successor is 'out of his control'!
Is he the controller or what? I think I'd want to get out rather than take the flak for an appointment I wasn't allowed to make.

It was a strange answer Bob said in not so many words " There should be a Balance between celebrities and real Dj's " |

In reality though there is no equal balance, the scale pan is heavily down on the side of the 'celeb'. _________________ Pirate Johnnie Walker played my request on 11 April 2009 |

Ah, I wasn't very clear. I meant that Shennan, unlike Douglas, is having to make major changes to the schedules due to Wogan & Ross leaving - these were the events that I meant were beyond his control. The responsibility for the choice of replacement of course lays squarely at his door. |

I doubt that Evans listeners could cope with Radio 4 programmes _________________ Fred Hart

Bob Shennan's response was a la Lesley Douglas, ie typical management speak. Perhaps his future too lies elsewhere in another industry. |

Thanks Nick. I probably read it too quickly and misunderstood.
He doesn't really seem the right man for the job somehow.

Well, no, he didn't say he's already decided on JR's replacement - they are still considering options. I didn't like the way he referred to "died in the wool" presenters such as Allinson and Walker, though. I've mentioned before how the Saturday schedule is very chalk and cheese - the very loose, chatty Ball, Ross and O'Leary with the tightly scripted SOTS and PotP between them. I wouldn't be surprised if the whole shape of Saturday were to be changed. _________________ Ron |

Hope they leave SOTS alone.

And Bob Harris too - but then again, since he's on so late, maybe everyone's forgotten he's on? _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

Feedback had someone in praise of Evans today, apparently he is like a breath of fresh air. More on the website they say! _________________ Pirate Johnnie Walker played my request on 11 April 2009 |
