Didn't catch all of this but the Local Authority chap on the show defending the installation is exactly the kind of bloke who makes me sick..
I may have the figures wrong until I listen again but did he say he wants to spend £125 million of government money + his own authority's budget upgrading the street lights to energy saving? and, I'm sure he said it was for 28,000 streetlights!
Jeremy worked out the energy savings to the council of £700,000 a year would take 178 years to equal the amount of the bill!!
I've just witnessed a similar thing here in our town.. street after street of lamp posts replaced with new posts and low energy lamps. I questioned the "private" firm doing the job, asking why they had to replace the posts? couldn't they just replace the heads?
No, they were over a certain age so they all had to come out plus a complete rewire because the positions were changed too.
This is all very well if the government has money to burn but aren't we supposed to be cutting back?
This just stinks of bad advice, nobody daring to say no and private firms making a fortune from local authorities across the land.
And, the new light from these low energy units is just awful.. _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07
