Yes I heard him say something to that affect.
Hopefuly it will be a 2 week stint next time.
I wonder if he is going to be used as cover for anyone else in the future as Zoe seems to have Bruce's gig, Dale seems to be the preferred sit in for Wright. Madeley has the Mayo gig covered and Jones seems to get the nod for Kennedy-just a thought. |

I hope Madeley doesn't have the Mayo gig covered, Mark - I'm hoping Bob will change his mind next time. I was hoping they'd be a bit more adventurous with breakfast cover. I like RA but part of the pleasure of cover DJs is the chance to hear different styles (Yes, I know, I never complained when it was Johnnie but he created his own show wonderfully - and I can't see RA doing that).
People I'd like to hear on breakfast as cover: Stuart Maconie, Janice Long & Zoe Ball. |

Nick-I have been at home all day today and have been listening to the daytime output on Radio 2 since 7pm this morning.
Have to say Zoe was fine covering for Ken and I thought Richard Madeley did a great job today covering for Simon Mayo. The music he played was really great-he seems to be quite passionate about the music unlike Simon Mayo.
Understand Richard Allinson will be back covering for Chris during election week in May. |

I'd almost forgotten about Stuart's presenting on his own, but I was searching for a recording today and found part of a Drivetime from early 2006. It was only half an hour or so but I'd really like to hear him do more after hearing it again.
It also reminded me how much Drive has deteriorated since then, it's a shadow of its former self. IMHO that is! I suppose with his joint show now there is little chance of him doing cover unless they are very short.Shame!
I agree it's nice to see the way other presenters put their stamp on things. I always thought Stuart did a fantastic job when he sat in for Johnnie long term.

I have to say, I wonder why they don't let Janice Long out in the daytime nowadays. She was great when she had the Saturday afternoon slot (Before Richard Allinson) And The Album Chart Show (deputising for Simon Mayo) and sitting in for Mo Dutta at the weekends. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

I haven't tuned into Drive since Monday so I can't comment anymore on RM but I disagree with your point about Mayo - I would say, compared to all other daytime hosts, Mayo is the most passionate about music. He practically builds the show around music. |

I wish he would make the show his own and not try to do it like he was still covering for Evans. I will look forward to Richard Allinson's next stint on Breakfast, it can't come soon enough for me. _________________ Pirate Johnnie Walker played my request on 11 April 2009 |

Is Radio 2 got a problem with Chris on during General Election week? I just wonder if the schedules are changing for a couple of days due to the GE to fit in Jeremy Vine? |

Broadcasters have very tight rules to follow (Representation of the People Act) during an election campaign so everyone in BBC factual departments will be on tenterhooks that week (and from now on, in fact).
Evans probably just wants the week off, though. |

Yes, I do agree. It must be difficult for him and it's clear he feels awkward about being a stand-in. I would much prefer him to be himself, for sure.
When he last deputised for Evans I got a (pseudonym) name check on air which was the result of my asking him, via email, a very cheeky question. He didn't repeat the question (it was really cheeky!) but he did play a piece of music for me with nothing more than a chuckle.
His reply via email later on was funny, too! |

It will have nothing to do with the election Mark. It matters not a jot who presents the breakfast show on the say or week of an election!
The only person who won't be on air will be Jeremy Vine who will be preparing for the night time Results TV show with the Swingometer. They can't discuss election issues whilst the polling is happening so someone will sit in or there will be a different type of show for that day only.
I seem to recall JV did a late night show after the polls had closed on the last election and some results were coming in on.
I doubt he'll be doing the show on Friday after being up all night so I expect someone will sit in for him.

Helen,
I know this is off topic, but I think David Dimbley and co usually go off air at 6am for Breakfast then back at 9am? Jeremy probarly will come in after the late night. |

I don't think he did after the swingometer last time Mark, as I think he continued into Breakfast TV.
I know he has done the odd show after a late TV show, but I think that was before his days with the Swingometer. I guess it could depend on how he feels, much as he probably would want to do his own show. Elections fascinate him as he's said many times!
Must admit I like watching the results come in, have you ever been to a count? I was at a council election one many years ago, great atmosphere.

My brother worked in local government for years and served as Returning Officer on a number of occasions. He says the atmosphere is electric because of the race by counts to return their results before others. |
