Well, well, well. The good old establishment values are still there bubbling under the surface.

According to a BBC story, the Conservatives are proposing to give four million married couples and civil partners an annual £150 tax break.

So, if they succeeded in gaining a sufficient majority in the coming election and did indeed manage to push through such a policy, we'd be in a situation where those couples who choose not to marry would effectively be subsidising those that do.

No, I can't work out the rationale there, either.

Which century are these people living in?

See: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/election_2010/8612610.stm

PS: I predict that it will never happen. It's another desperate pre-election promise that will be forgotten very quickly.

That's £450 million quid!

But for a family £150 a year is nothing really, 3 quid a week, what a waste of half a billion quid. Rather use it to train/pay some decent teachers to educate our children, and I mean really educate them.

A totally absurd scheme. It stigmatises single people & unmarried couples. It is discriminatory. It is an attempt at social engineering. David cameron thinks everyone should get married so he will 2reward" those that do & penalise those that don't.

In the very unlikely event that such a barmy concept became law, I think my son and his partner might have good grounds to take the government to court on human rights issues. And I'm sure they'd have a good case!

It's discrimination, and I can't believe that Cameron and the silly fool who would be Chancellor aren't so naive as to think it would work.

What a bunch of wallies!

Thanks, John. Was down at the weatherspoons with my mate last night & he corrected my misunderstanding. So, that's a pint of beer & a packet of crisps once a week
it's a totally laughable policy. They says this election is the Tories to lose & they seem intent on losing it
If Cameron loses this one He & his Eton chums in the shadow cabinet will be chopped by the Tory hierarchy

Putting the financial implication aside, it's a policy that's comes direct from good old-fashioned religious establishment. By proposing to award married couples with this allowance, they're effectively penalising and discriminating against those who aren't. Are they implying that those who are co-habit without being married are "living in sin". What a quaint old concept! They must be, but they'd require them to pay £150pa more in tax than those who are married.

As I mentioned above, the old traditional values are still there bubbling away under the surface - proving that "Call me Dave" Cameron and the Boy Osborne really don't have a clue!

David Cameron has got some other smart polocies up his sleeve. He thinks that everyone should be exactly like him. Ane everyone who isn't should be penalised.
Did you realise that David Cameron has packed the shadow cabinet not just with old eton boys, but with his buddies who were actually at Eton with him?
He is planning to give an extra tax break to anyone who can produce an old eton tie
That's his BIG idea

One good thing: We're going to get a 10p per litre reduction in the price of petrol.

And pigs, apparently, are going to fly.
