I don't recall him being on that often either Nod. I think he did a New Year's Eve (?) thing a few years ago but I didn't hear it.

Given Tarrant's proven track record in radio, we should hopefully be spared the usual whines about "celebrity" presenters with no experience.

I'm looking forward to it; without meaning any disrespect to Mr. Tarrant, he's not Steve Wright so therefore I'll be tuning in! Wink

Chris Tarrant did a few Christmas specials between 2004 and 2006. He's not made any appearances until now. I would like to hear him on Radio 2 permanently. At least he's not a 'yoof presenter' like Chris Evans, Zoe Ball etc.

I can remember hearing him on Capital Radio when he had a morning show and enjoying it. I would certainly give this a listen.

Well, halfway through the show and personally I think it's dreadful. Juvenile and unprofessional.

As my OH just said, "it's beginning to get painful listening to the radio these days."

He's a proffessional broadcaster. I think the show was bloody good. Give the man a chance to find his feet. It's his first time Radio 2 at running a whole live show for a week. He's getting to the grips how to run the desk, and some broadcasters don't even try that out.

I winced when he related the altercation with the cyclist - he's got a bit of history when it comes to disagreements.

First time I've ever heard Chris Tarrant on the radio, only caught some of it as I was working.
Sounded OK, have to agree with Mark that people should give him a chance.
I always think it takes a while to get used to someone before you can form a proper opinion.
(For example) I'm glad the BBC took no notice of the Dads Army sample audiences as they didn't like it at all, but the BBC stuck with it and it became a much loved show.

He's settled into the show very nicely today. The show is miles more entertaining with CT than messers.. Graham Norton and Dale Winton.

What I find interesting (not the show itself, obviously) is that it's a fairly like-for-like stand-in. Radcliffe and Allinson are a quieter, music-driven presenter, Norton and Winton have clearly defined personalities, but Tarrant - he shouts, reads snippets from newspapers and magazines, keeps giving us the weather and time checks, and does wacky interaction with fellow presenters and Joe Public. Which is pretty much what Steve Wright does!

I'd have thought Wrighty would be more precious of his slot. Either his power's slipping or he's happy for Tarrant to do it because there's no way on Earth Tarrant will commit full time.

I've listened a bit and it's OK. Lack of sycophantic wanabees is as much a bonus as anything.

I did enjoy the gag at the end of yesterday's show.... "If you liked it I was Chris Tarrant, if you didn't I was Chris Evans".

I agree it wasn't a great comparison Colin, also agree with everything you said about Dads Army (been listening to the Radio shows recently...superb)
Just that I think people should be given some time rather than switching off after part of one show.
What I have noticed about CT is that he asks a question and then talks over the person as they answer, which is pretty annoying.
I noticed he did it with Boyzone, the members of the public who chose their oldies and with Sally Traffic.

I agree. Tarrant was just trying too hard and it was painful to listen to. Dale Winton is a much better host in that slot.

Dale mentioned on Wednesday show that he been critised on Digital Spy for forgetting telephone number and losing his bits of paper. Laughing

. Yesterday he said " he forget where he parked his car on Tuesday"

I'm always struck by how well-liked Dale is both by the inevitable phoners-in and by the artistes he is interviewing. I heard one guy yesterday complimenting him on how well he knew his music.

I wish he was doing the full stint. Won't be tuning in to Tarrant. Crying or Very sad
