Who else is watching Gerry Robinson on BBC2 as he tries to save the NHS, or at least that portion of it that is based in Rotherham?
As an ex-NHS manager I must give him all credit for not paring down the whole political scenario to doctors good, managers bad, as they always do in Casualty and the like--if anything, he may be erring towards the other side.
Wasn't that a bit of a cheap shot from one of the surgeons, who said that the problem was down to managers with 3 O Levels trying to direct doctors with 5 or 6 degrees? There may be an element of that at the most junior levels but most senior NHS managers hold a recognised professional qualification and many have degrees too.
Apologies if I should have put this on the news board--it can be hard to tell where one begins and another ends.

Ian,
One has to recognise that Gerry Robinson is a genuine businessman and can see through all the excuses that state employed management can throw at him to justify their failings.
Margaret Thatcher introduced management into the NHS but the health service unions, with the backing of the Labour party, ensured that efficient administration was blocked at every turn. Health service management is now made up of the same people who deliberately sabotaged Maggie's attempts at efficiency policy.
This is not a snipe at the unions, but is aimed at the cynical way that the Labour party deliberately undermined anything that indicated innovative and successful policies from their political opponents. _________________ Standing on Ray Moore's shoulders |
