They're almost ashamed to report it on the BBC Entertainment News, but Dermot O'Leary won the Best Musical Programme award at the Sony bash last night, for the second time in three years.
He mumbles and bumbles too much on the radio for me, but at least he's better than what follows, which would surely qualify for the Worst, if such a category existed. _________________ Ron |

He does nothing for me with his mumbling.
I take the Sony's with a pinch of salt. After all Evans won 'best something or other' within 6 months of his return to Radio 2 for his Saturday show which was just awful.

I have to say that I'm not a huge admirer of Dermot's radio style, although his Saturday afternoon programme makes a reasonably good listen if used as background radio (such as the other day when I was tidying up the shed!) or when driving. His style is a bit too laid back sometimes, and he does seem to be making it up by the second.
However, he does give space to new musicians and engages with them pretty well, so I'm grateful for small mercies, really. Saturday afternoons could be a lot worse.
And what comes immediately after is certainly a lot, lot worse! |

I see it as an award for his producer, Ben Walker, who clearly does all the work (and, frankly, may as well present it). Ben was also nominated for Richard Herring's podcast but didn't win that one. |

And the only reason why I listen in occasionally if there's a band or artist I'm interested in hearing - I heard him interviewing Emiliana Torriani a couple of years back and thought, hmm, maybe I should keep tabs on who his guests are.... but like Colin, I can't abide what follows under any circumstances. _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

Cherskiy - that's an absolutely FABULOUS picture you're using as your avatar. Is it yours? If so, nice work! |
