I didn't know where to post this but thought id be safe in coffee bar.
How much do radio presenters earn?I'm not talking about R2 presenters as such but more like local BBC radio and commercial stations.
Im just being nosey but was listening to planet rock the other day and wondered how much someone like Rob Birnie gets paid.
I also know it's none of our business but am quite interested _________________ I found out how you can hurt an insect. It's the bees knees |

I have known several BBC local presenters over the years and, given that nearly all of them are on freelance contracts, you'd be surprised at how little they're paid. It wasn't long ago that a guy I've known for years who was doing a Saturday and Sunday breakfast-time show was getting £26,000 pro-rata, which doesn't work out to be that much given that he only spent a few hours a week in the building! He didn't even have a producer to build the show content during the week, either, and had only to share a production assistant with other presenters.
Needless to say, he had a "proper" job during the week. |

I know two Commercial Radio presenters - they tell me that they earn around £250K a year, although they do other work on top of their radio shows- voice overs and the like. Looking at their lifestyle, I've no reason to think that they earn less than that. |

They must be working at network level because I can't for one minute think that someone doing breakfast on one of the Heart franchises would get paid anywhere near that. Commercial radio has had a really rough time these last few years so if they're paying those sorts of rates for the average airhead rent-a-gob that's commonly heard on ILR they deserve everything they get! |

There is a subtle difference here between earnings and what they get paid. Some don't earn what they are paid, I will say no more! _________________ Pirate Johnnie Walker played my request on 11 April 2009 |

Did I just hear on the news that we'll all soon know who "earns" what at the Beeb?
Whoever it is and whatever it is, it's too much imo.. _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

I think there would be a Data Protection Act issue if actual earnings were to be made public - and rightly so. The plan, as I understand it, is to simply state which "pay band" an employee's fee or salary fits into. |
