I heard Bobbi Proyer reporting her first Saturday morning traffic report on the Patrick Kietly show. Although some people reckon it's not necessary and BBC local radio do it. People still do travel across the UK even through it's a weekend. I think it's good Radio 2 have read and listened to the listeners who have mentioned this on the Radio2 message board. It's a national station connecting to the listeners to the whole of the UK.

I've never heard anybody say it's not necessary. Anyhow, consider all the very predictable traffic jams on the M5 south en route to the west-country yesterday morning.

I've been travelling back "home" to Devon for 33 years now and I never drive on the morning of the first day of Summer school holidays. Are people really stupid enough to think they're going to be the only ones heading west at that time?

That's why Bobbi Prior was required.

It's well overdue. Quite apart from the holiday jams, a lot of lorry traffic moves on Saturdays (and Sundays for that matter) so as far as I'm concerned it's public service as it should be.

It wasn't that long ago that the M1 motorway from us (Jcn 14) down to London was an easy drive on Saturdays and Sundays, but these days it's as busy at weekends as it is during the week.

Interestingly, the RDS traffic bulletins are almost non-existent at weekends - presumably because of the staffing cost implications at local BBC stations.

It would have been very useful with the Farnborough airshow being on this week. There's a creator of traffic jams if ever there was one, especially the 'public days' (the last Saturday & Sunday) well worth avoiding the area in the morning & at chucking out time

BBs Sussex traffic is useful. Preoccupied with the M25, A3, Staines and Guildford, none of which is actually in Sussex. Of course, the jam in Sussex that you're stuck in won't get a mention

Some people have said on R2 MB etc it's not worth as BBC local are there too do it. I think it's well overdue and I have asked many times for this to be introduced in a few emails over the years to the BBC.
