Can you remember during the recession; BBC News 24 and other BBC news programmes had that huge logo “THE DOWNTURN” with a big arrow pointing downwards- just in case we weren’t sure which way that is, and every time there was some bad news, that Robert Peston chap would appear, serious faced, in front of the logo to give us the bad news, and just what that meant to ordinary people in the street. You're going down he told us time and again. He always looked like he was enjoying it too much for me but we took it on the chin. OK so now we’re in an UPTURN – where’s the big logo-where’s the big skyward arrow, where’s Robert Peston with the good news every time a new business opens or a garage sells more cars this month than they did this time last year? Come on, we can take good news too!

I do agree with you, Rachel. It really annoyed me the way "the downturn" was treated like a serial drama by the BBC, with Peston in the leading role of The Doom Monger.

I'm sure he's to blame for lowering people's confidence and spirits.

I bet I'm not the only one who's been singing 'downturn...' to the tune of Petula Clark's 'Downtown'!

By the way, ITV3 have a Birdseye sponsorship ident with two men duelling, and one of them is the dead spit of Peston! It always preceded Mr. Bean.
