It's a shame she's not on the television breakfast.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/celebritynews/8004550/Selina-Scott-makes-surprise-return-to-the-BBC.html

Is the fixation with everyone's age a wind-up?

On her radio show (as was!) Sarah Kennedy often questioned the relevance of publishing a person's age in a press story - and quite rightly, too.

I like her too but isn't she a strange choice to cover the Breakfast fiasco?
I'd imagine she's more "Radio 2" than Radio 2 used to be if you know what I mean...

It would be better if she were presenting the whole of the R2 Breakfast Show, of course, instead of playing the part of one of Evans' obedient sidekicks.

I'll have the pleasure of listening to her from 7.00am until 7.03am - and then that'll be it until the following day due to the simple fact that my radio gets switched off at that time.

Shame she isn't doing the 5-7am slot. A try out perhaps?

From what she says, she didn't like the early starts, even when she was younger, and that's the problem - finding someone mature enough (apart from Alice Blue Goon) who also doesn't mind the 3am wake-up call.

You can't beat a class act and she is growing older gracefully instead of filing herself up with Botox. I like a subtle yet striking lady of advanced age. Another is the actress Mary Tamm. I'm 25 years her junior, but that wouldn't stop me Wink

In the beginning, "BBC Breakfast Time" was fronted by Fran Bough and Selina Scott.

Here's Selina in the Breakfast Time studio: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/breakfast/presenters/7706825.stm
And here with Frank Bough: http://news.bbc.co.uk/onthisday/hi/dates/stories/january/17/newsid_2530000/2530363.stm
She definitely deserves much better than just being one of Evans' stooges.

The good news is, she's back at the BBC on the Radio 2 Breakfast Show, a stepping stone to greater things.

Let's hope we don't get the Green Goddess dressing Evans up in a leotard to stretch on the radio. Please, no.

He's already done it (almost) - remember the pea suit on The One Show.

I have to say I thought breakfast tv was at its best when it started. Frank Bough, Selina Scott and Francis Wilson seemed to set the right, relaxed and friendly atmosphere. They could also read the autocue... with... out... emphaSIZING... words in the wrong place.

The set was designed to resemble a living room, with red leather sofas and steaming carafes of hot coffee. But over the years the programme became gradually more formal. Presenters later included Kirsty Wark, John Stapleton, Jeremy Paxman and Sally Magnusson.

It all went wrong after the first sentence.

The one thing I really hated about the early show was that every time I switched on I seemed to be confronted by that silly star-gazer Russell Grant and his stupid "predictions".

Didn't Selina sit in for Jeremy Vine a few years ago? And was pretty rubbish.

What was the name of that cook who always seemed as if she had been testing too much of the cooking sherry beforehand?
Wasn't Breakfast Time where Alan Titchmarsh got his big break? I remember one day he was out in the Breakfast Time garden doing his stuff when a big clap of thunder was heard overhead.
On the subject of the 'green goddess' (no, not the vintage fire engine!) though this does have connections with the fire & rescue services. I remember one day she was exercising a group of firemen in their station when a shout came and they all had to go about their duty. Poor Diana was suddenly on her todd in the middle of an empty fire station.

Are you sure? I saw him on Sky not so long ago. He used to live near my inlaws down in south Bucks near Amersham. We used to see him shopping at Waitrose, Chesham.

I don't watch Sky News, but it was widely reported they'd sacked him earlier this year when they reduced the number of weather presenters.

Lord Evan Elpuss, did you see Would I Lie To You on Dave when they showed a clip of Alan Titchmarsh in a bee costume, singing Arthur Askey's 'The Bee Song'?

David Mitchell asked after the footage, 'Was it from poo Night?' Whatever it WAS from, it still shows that AT was stuck in an old-time mode then!

No, I missed it! Is it a recent show that would still be on 'I-player'?
