Broadcast from Manchester, covers much of the north West of England.
I always wanted a fossil rock radio station like they have in the US! It's quite good, the presenters really know their music.
Steve Berry (old presenter of Top Gear) does the breakfast show.
I usually tune in just after Chester services on the way into work around 7am. |

And at the weekends, of course, Steve co-hosts with that legend of Northern independent commerical radio. Mike Sweeney.
I discovered this station one Friday night where (unlike Scott Nelson) I perfectly understood Radio Two was not for me or my tastes, as it had a remit to broadcast to an older generation still. Even so, there's only so much of "Friday Night is Music Night" that a younger brain can take before it implodes. So I twirled the dial looking for an alternative, heard the welcome and familiar strains of "Tomorrow Night" by Atomic Rooster, and stayed with it.
Drawbacks:
i) 106.1 is far too close to a wavelength used by a mediocre pop/dance music station and the signal keeps wavering and crossing - have to get up and fine-tune reception far too often.
ii) Unless I've been pulling an all-nighter, it can be a bit too loud at six in the morning - you wantr something a bit more sedate then.
Advantages:-
i) The Moose
ii) Those droll station ID clips that take the p out of the whole business while telling you what you're listening to
iii) They know the Blue Oyster Cult did a lot more than just "Don't Fear The Reaper"
iv) It's rock
v) Gambaccini himself does occassional shows - usually pre-recorded docus
Incidentally, if "Friday Night is music night" is about "music for everybody", I await their Sex Pistols or Deep Purple tribute night with bated breath... as by extension "everybody" includes DP and Pistols fans _________________ One of the BBC's bad boys, seemingly. |

Dee 106.3 I think. I struggle from Whitby to Frodsham where it tries to take over my car radio!
I really enjoyed their "Band remains the same" where they played lots of Journey, and not "Don't Stop Believing"! |

Hallelujah, Gibbo! A lot of the crappy local stations (hello Real, Aire) wouldn't know that Journey had other songs. _________________ We are loonies and we are proud!

I'm enjoying their best bits of the breakfast show on Sunday mornings - they had someone from Journey and Mick Jones from Foreigner on being interviewed about their joint tour. _________________ We are loonies and we are proud!
