He's doing a concert tour from the middle of November to Christmas, so he's certainly not in the seat for long. _________________ Ron |

I wouldn't expect Aled could be committed to Early Breakfast all the time. I would like it to be Lynn, but this depends what Smooth are offering her in the new year? |

Mark, the Radio Times says Aled Jones is hosting the Early Breakfast Show w/c 4 October. There is no mention that this is a permanent arrangement. Nor can I find anywhere that the show will remain on Radio 2.
Has there been any official announcement made by the BBC? Earlier this month Bob Shennan did say that Lynn Parsons would host the show for the next four weeks, by which time a decision will be made about the show's future.
I am led to believe that Lynn Parsons will be hosting the Smooth Radio Breakfast Show between 4 October and the end of December. Simon Bates takes over in January. |

I like Aled. I wish he could be the regular presenter on the early breakfast slot. Used to enjoy it when he sat in for Sarah K. _________________ Dharma Cat

The thing about Aled Jones is: he is just too nice but he comes over as a fake to me. When he’s interviewing someone – he’s ok at that but when he’s on his own he can't string an original sentence together, he’s like a random DJ phrase generator but the phrases were all recorded in the 1950s….
“Morning, it’s lovely to be here on Radio 2”
“Good to have you with us on Radio 2”
“It’s great to be here on Radio 2”
“It’s me again on Radio 2 – it’s good to be here”
“ I’m glad you’re listening to Radio 2”
“There’s be lots more of these pointless phrases, later in the show”
He drives me mad!!
Give me a bad boy any day. |

Strangely, I think Aled is a terrific broadcaster on his Sunday morning show, but he just seems to wilt under the harsh lights of a weekday dawn. |

He's fine for GMS with its vaguely spiritual format, and interviews with singers and musicians who have something to say.
He is just a bit too bland, lightweight, formulaic for {what we expect of} the Dawn Patrol / Early Breakfast. He's obviously been sent on a Radio Broadcasting Course. Having said that he does occasionally come out with a comment about a news item which makes you sit up and think, did he really say that?
He's not a contender for the post permanently, anyway, unless they're going to do a job-share, a la Wogan/Ball. _________________ Ron |

I think Aled is far better suited to doing shows like Friday Night is Music Night
I've nothing against him covering for absent presenters like he did a while ago for Ken Bruce and more recently Alex Lester but I'm not sure I could stick him on every week day
To me he will always be associated with that silly Snowman song from the 70s good though it probably was for a lad of his age but I fear that getting involved in doing that at such an early age may to some extent have blighted his later career
There again if he had not done it he probably would never have had his present career so I guess its a case of taking the rough with the smooth like most things in life |

Ron I didn't mean it in a cruel way
I don't tend to hold things against people unless they happen to be Chris Evans but I just think that Aled lacks a certain amount of credebility as a prime time presenter though I am sure he is a very nice man |

Yes, he's fine for FNIMN as well.
As a singer I think he's done well to overcome the Walking In The Air factor.
Peter Auty, who sang the song in the film, isn't so much in the limelight, but is apparently a fine opera tenor.

I don't know how Aled Jones will cope getting up in the middle of the night six days a week! Unless his Sunday show is pre-recorded? |

Would she want it, but?
The problem with the 5-7 slot is the 3am wake up call, and I suspect the number of good names happy to do that is limited.
Alex this morning once again mentioned how fortunate he is, being able to do things and play music which would not be possible at other times of the day. Janice has the same freedom - would she want to give that up? _________________ Ron |

Janice Long and Alex Lester are legends! Rather than introducing another ex-R1 DJ or celebrity airhead to replace Sarah Kennedy, extend Janice and Alex's shows.
It wouldn't surprise me if Liza Tarbuck replaced Kennedy! She's benen earmarked for a slot on R2 for ages now. |

Aled came up trumps when he showed what a good singer he is as he did a duet with her. I just wish I could get the choirboy image out of my head. Aled is a top bloke with a bone-crushing handshake. His treble days long behind him.

We hope you will all tune in to hear his take on the daily news and great music choices.
NEWSFLASH
And further to this Aled will be standing in for Chris Evans from the 27th December up until the 3rd January 2011 - taking in a 'very' special birthday on the way...... |

Aled works well over Christmas - very festive. I wonder if Chris will be slaving away until Christmas Eve again, then. |

I certainly don't recognise the phrase 'slaving away' about Chris
More like even further promoting his own over sized ego and boring everyone to death in the process |

I missed him sitting in for Ken Bruce, but it must have been a blessed relief for the listener in listening to a well modulated voice rather than Kens' alarmingly wildly fluctuating vocal tones |

I really can't see what it is that you find wrong with Ken Bruce's voice. You kept on and on about it on the R2 board. As Ken has 6.9 million listeners I think you're very much in the minority with regards to his voice.

I like Ken Brice's voice. I also like his ability to poke fun at himself and also those around him. His interaction with Lynn Bowles and others is what helps to make the show what it is.
Let's face it - it could be worse! |

I'm sure Ken Bruce is a very nice man but I don't like his voice either (although of course it's not nearly as bad as you-know-who's). It's mostly the choice of music I don't like. |

Ken has a very interesting voice and the interaction on the show is excellent both with fellow presenters and guests
Certainly a lot better than some of the monotone drivel we are increasingly having to put up with on this wonderful network |

I am in agreement with those posters who are not fans of Ken Bruce.
I for one cannot stand his voice, it grates on me and I cannot listen to him for long at all.
I also don't find his humour and his superior tone/attitude to my liking either. |

I can honestly say that I've never noticed anything irritating about Ken Bruce's tones/voice. And I would be the person to do that, my husband says!
Ken strikes me as a nice guy, but sadly I don't listen much anymore. We found somewhere else to be first thing, and we often forget to retune. As I said we would, when they first started messing about with 'he who must not be mentioned', the wittering yummy mummy, Chris Tarrant etc etc...

They seem to be keepin the same format. Swing Time and Show Tunes.
Aled is probarly covering for the next cover, who will be covering for the next one - who will cover for the person who is taking over Full time. |

It does show the BBC won't move Janice Long and Alex Lester shows forward. They seem to want to keep hold of Early Breakfast. They couldn't really press release if true - you know who - taking over Radio 2 Early Breakfast in January. It would look stupid. So they are keeping the seat warm with a few cover presenters. |

Oh joy- we get the R2 Schedule from Aled Jones' personal website now. I'm lost for words. Still, it's all good material for my next book.
I see they've updated the schedule for the early start of Chris' show from
Monday.
