I may be wrong but reading the article it seems that the fact that the website had over 100,000 hits whilst evans was shouting in a field is a great success whereas I would have thought that 1% of his apparently huge audience clicking on the site during that show is an incredibly low number.
Perhaps he needs an extra hour over Terry Wogan to get the same listening figures?
Thanks for the link to room 101 it's great that he went in but who the hell let him back out? |

To be fair, 100,000 is quite decent when you consider Daybreak on ITV only gets 700,000 viewers at the same time. |

The figure of 100,000 is a very good traffic figure for the duration of the broadcast - most website owners would die for that kind of attention.
Other key factors are how long the visitors stayed with the site, of course; if they just peeked in and then disappeared it doesn't reflect the true nature of the visit, and then there's the "unique hits" - the number of visits that occurred from a single IP address. It's pretty common to get a ratio of 1:5 "uniques" to page clicks, and that would impact upon the actual number of visitors.
However, either way it's quite an achievement. Perhaps the reason why people visited the web pages was to visualise the location.
I used to go camping in Talland Bay back in the early 70s when I lived in Plymouth. It's lost its attraction now that I know those two Madeley townies have a holiday home there! |

Whilst I agree 100,000 sounds a pretty good figure having just 1% of the audience create a 'hit' on the site during a 2 1/2 hr broadcast when, one would assume, a much greater percentage of his listeners have internet access just doesn't sound that many to me. Of course this is taking into account that those that visited only did so once, which is highly unlikely. |

We were two.... hubby looked on his laptop and I looked on mine- mainly to see what the weather was doing.... it was a classic case of ... you should have been here last week- it was roasty toasty.
Did anyone else see Chris Evans yesterday on the news - he was in the crowd at the end of the golf thing- funny headphones with sticky up bits - like Christmas Antlers... ? |

Wow, how very naive. Rachel I got the impression you were a media savvy PR type. Obviously I was wrong. Leaks are nearly always sprung by those who benefit most from the publicity, Liam Fox got his warning into the public domain because otherwise it would have been buried by Camerclegg. Similarly BBC Radio 2 doesn't depend on press releases to get REAL publicity any more. Leaks are much sexier and much higher profile......Simples! _________________ God's Jukebox my arse. |

Perhaps, once I was a savvy media PR type, TWD, but from an age when honour, integrity, veracity and correct protocol were the everyday qualities one expected and relied upon from ones staff. Yes leaks are sexy now and again but a relationship based on sex isn’t going to last very long, fun for a while but one has to be promiscuous to keep the ball rolling, then of course it becomes a fine line between being taken seriously and having a reputation for knee trembling. |

Why does everyone think this news was leaked? Is it not more likely that a sharp-eyed hack spotted it when the schedules were sent to listings mags? |

Surely the only reason for the extension to the show is so the BBC can manipulate the listener figures even further!

So now we all know that Sarah Kennedy was pushed out by the "favoured one" the listening figures will somehow be massaged by the management to justify the move - I despair - what the hell have they done with my Radio 2. To think they have given that "cretin" the whole morning, thanks to Bob Shennan and Mark Thopson for really being in touch with what Radio 2 is all about. Radio 2 Dumb Down for idots, sorry to be a touch "aggressive in tone to the Evans Fans, but this news has really hit a nerve. |
Where did you come by the info that SK was "pushed out" by CE? I'm not a fan of either, just curious to know the back story behind the recent SK developments.
I'm in total agreement with a lot of folks on here though.... what are they all (Shennan, Evans etc) doing to our Radio 2??? I barely listen anymore _________________ He's not the Messiah- he's a very naughty boy! |

To be fair, the Daily Wail "story" is a piece of writing that interprets the content of an interview with him. It's perfectly reasonable that he would have responded to a question about his wife's health issues and it's also perfectly reasonable that he would have expressed his feelings about such experiences.
It's hardly a "sob story", and I think that to use such a term is unacceptable.
aviddiva wrote: | Other tragedies are available. |
... as is that.
I don't rate Evans as a broadcaster at all, but I wouldn't use that as a vehicle to make cheap and nasty comments about his wife's experiences in childbirth. |

Me too. I understand that people have problems in their life. But I objected to the last paragraph ......There was no need to add ( he suggested bigger TV projects could be on their way) It was as if he was paving the way for more invasion of our media

Well, there it was. So what did we think?
In brief..
‘twas ok but could do better.
In depth…
Evolution not revolution- that’s the easy, lazy, path of least resistance option, it was like they just copied the 07:30 – to 08:00 section, then pasted it into 06:30 to 07:00. A little tweak and that’ll do. Jonny Saunders at ten to seven- no thanks!! I was still in bed – you can stop that right now! Big Screen Belter – that was ok- music is always good. The Morning Chris! I don’t think that has very long legs and is probably binbound already. Although having said that, it’s an easy feature to just make up if no one texts in. “Morning Chris from Dodgy Dave the Dentist in Dagenham, Morning Chris from Red Ed on E-bay looking to buy some friends, Morning Chris from Anna in Havana listening on the iplayer let’s have some Cuban big boy!… |

Didn't listen, to be frank.
Went with Aled till just before 6:30, than taught myself what the tuning dial on top of the radio was for (funny there was a time, not so long ago, where I hardly ever touched this - it was set to Radio Two for a good 90% of the time!)
Discovered to my mild surprise that Stockport now has its own ILR station - low-key commercial radio that is never going to set the world on fire, but which served for that time of day: a single presenter, just playing the music and reading out the local traffic problems (including a minor crash a hundred yards up the road from our house, which was slightly surreal). A single woman presenter, possibly a bit older and more mature, just getting on with it and playing the music. Noo zoo, no buzzes, no bangs, no shouting. How terribly old-fashioned and off-message.... _________________ One of the BBC's bad boys, seemingly. |

I have to confess that our alarm clock radio wasn't retuned last night largely because my wife couldn't be bothered (it's on her side and she's in control), so when the 6.30 news came and went - hardly worth the bother really, why does it need a "special" news reader? - I had to endure almost 15 minutes of Evans before she got up and I rolled over and hit the "off" button (accompanied by an muted expletive that ended in the same word and directed at Evans).
What I had to endure in that short time was just awful. Truly dreadful radio.
Trouble is, until the licensing situation enables more localised competition I can't find any suitable alternatives on the FM dial.
Radio is the UK really is a mess! |

Thank goodness my wake up apparatus was already tuned to Today. I don't think I could take even 1 second of Evans at 6.44...come to think of it...
It's all really sad, we didn't know hoW lucky we were this time last year, I would wake up to Sarah, eat brekkie with Tel, and have coffee with Ken. Now there's only Ken left and when he goes (because you can be sure the PTB are already planning to parachute in another shouter) then that will be it for me and daytime R2. I hope they're happy _________________ MiS |

As of now I won't be listening to R2 at all between Mondays and Fridays. I don't dislike Ken Bruce but I don't have much incentive to tune in (wherever I am, whatever I'm doing) just for his show so he loses out.
Which, come to think of it, could well accelerate his decline in listening figures as lots of people like me don't bother to tune in after avoiding Gob Almighty.
Another example of "The Chris Evans Effect"? |

One problem for Ken is that he is up against Mark Goodier on Smooth and has been for some time
What has changed however is that Smooth now has a much stronger breakfast show so I am sure many people like me will question whether it is worthwhile bothering to retune at 10.00am
Or perhaps if people do retune it will only be for Popmaster _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |
