Having listened to an entire Evans breakfast show in the beginning, I am certainly no fan.

However, one thing does bother me. If Evans does go back to tv full time, could things get even worse?

Let me just mention the words George Lamb. This gent was given the weekend breakfast on 6 Music by the same management as R2.

Lamb's show makes Evans' nonsense look like an edition of University Challenge by comparison. Lamb was even more vacuous than Evans (yes, it is possible!) and punctuated his show with bursts from an air horn.

Could we get someone even worse than Evans ???

The logical answer is no
As I like many others don't listen to the present breakfast show if Mr Lamb comes on the scene the position will be exactly the same for me and many others as it is now
However it would be yet another missed opportunity on the part of Mr Shennan to give us a breakfast show we can ALL enjoy

It couldn't get worse because R2 Breakfast is the pits already. However, a decent presenter might encourage me to start listening again.

There were constant and vehement protests against Lamb on the 6 Music message boards and he was removed from the weekday mid-morning schedule a while ago. There is absolutely no reason to believe "our" BBC has learned any lessons from past mistakes, but I'd be surprised if even they thought it feasible to survive the appointment of Lamb to a high profile breakfast show.

Until very recently, I listened to Shaun Keaveny's breakfast show and Lamb used to follow on from this. The childish stupidity of Lamb's programme was simply astonishing.

What is it about the BBC that leads them to assume that any breakfast programme that contains pop/rock music has to be presented in such an inane and immature manner? We have it on Radio 1, Radio 2 and 6Music.

Why, I wonder?

Whilst out driving this morning I listened to the Today programme on Radio 4 before getting fed up with George "Look, I'm now wearing long trousers Guys" Osborne pontificating about his latest public service cuts and switching to my iPod instead.

People are getting worked up (already) over something that's never going to happen: George Lamb got the weekend breakfast show at 6Music because no listener wanted him on the station at all but removing him completely would have been a bit embarrassing. It's only a short step to him leaving "to pursue TV commitments" - he ain't coming to Radio 2's breakfast show.

I think George Lamb's career has been affected by Harry Hill ridiculing his performance on BBC-3's 'Young Butcher Of The Year'!

Of course it's very unlikely it will happen......I think!

But let me take you back to 2004, If I had posted then who would be taking over the R2 breakfast show in 2010, would I have been shot down in flames?

Just a thought!

Not by me. Even now, the question is: who would take over from Evans if he left tomorrow? Simon Mayo? Graham Norton? er....? There's no-one else on the station at the moment who could do it.

Been there, done that - when Terry left the first time, to go and do TV.
It may have been because he was seen to be a poor man's Wogan, but it didn't quite work.
I don't think he'd be keen to be "interim choice" for a second time.

Ken never liked doing early morning radio.

It's a nice thought though, having a professional, calm, collected presenter to ease you into the day.

Richard Allinson did a good job in that spot didn't he? Janice Long? How about going out there and see what jobbing DJs could be given their big break?

If we went back to the 70's and 80's then this may have happened. Radio 2 have moved on with TV stars who host shows. In a fantasy world - Liza Tarbuck would have had mid mornings, and Dale Winton would be on afternoons if any of those had left.

Why on earth would you want Ken doing the breakfast show?
All he does is play mainly rubbish music with a couple of good tracks thrown in.
AND his entire show consists of reading Emails from listeners, (which people like Zoe Ball get lambasted for) and awful interludes talking to Lynne Bowles, who cackles manically at whatever he says whether funny or not. (But she's not a sycophant because it's not Chris Evans)
It is like a typical bland commercial radio show mostly with Robbie Williams nearly everyday, Take That, Joe McElderry, Cheryl Cole etc etc.
Mind you he played The Carpenters followed by James and Bobby Purify which shocked me a little bit today so it's not all bad.

Gaz I agree about the music but that's down to the current producer one Gary Bones
If Ken moved to another slot I certainly wouldn't want Mr Bones to move with him

Given the top-heavy management structure at the BBC (where managers are employed in their droves to make life as difficult as possible for those actually making programmes) I would imagine that an Executive Producer is a bit like a Vice President in a large US corporation - ie: there are hundreds of the buggers!

I think even if Gary is now Executive Producer he probably still has a great deal of influence on the show and has probably trained his understudies to play the same old crap as he did when he was a mere mortal!

Ruddles: you're absolutely right about Gary Bones being responsible for the dire, bland, cheesy and unchallenging mush that Ken Bruce gets lumbered with. I wonder what KB actually thinks of it!

Significantly the music he played last week was a lot better, and surprise surprise the producer all last week was someone else! Let's hope Gary Bones is due lots of leave!

Yea silly of me really, I forgot Ken is an accomplished radio broadcaster, with a sound musical knowledge, who doesn't shout.

Yes, Ken's show was fantastic under previous producer Ken Phillips. You genuinely didn't know what you were going to get, and it played to Bruce's strengths.

Then Evans arrived, Richard Allinson lost his Saturday slot, Allinson's producer moved to mornings and it was all downhill from there...

Yes it is silly of you Kengeo, (very smug I must say) tell me what he does on the show apart from read Emails?
I know he has a sound knowledge of music, I hear him talking with the guests on Tracks Of My Years. He seems to know all about the records being chosen and the artists.
He goes on about how great the song or artist is and then guess what? Never ever plays them again.
Take today with Glenn Matlock, Ken says "Here's the great Peggy Lee", well if you think she's great Ken, then play her once in a while.
It counts for nothing having a great musical knowledge if you never put it into action.

I think you've more or less answered your own question in your post, yes the music he plays does leave a little to be desired, but is not beyond fixing - it may well be the fact that is not down to him anyway. Would any other DJ be playing the same music with Gary Bones as executive producer? Who knows?

With Ken you get an intelligent, mature broadcaster who broadcasts and behaves in a way one would expect of a Radio 2 DJ.

And all without his own personal newsreader!

I enjoy listening to Ken, despite his liking for Amy McDonald, but can't see him wanting to or being asked to replace a departed Evans. I would happily listen to Richard Allinson, but isn't it more likely to be Madely?

I hope not! We need someone with a pleasant voice for mornings, Richard Allinson or Johnnie Walker would be my choice(s).

That's exactly R2's problem at the moment- too many unskilled celebs and TV stars and nowhere near enough proper, intelligent, professional RADIO PRESENTERS.

With the sudden departure of Manford from the One Show, Evans seems to enjoy the extra appearances, what are the chances of him becoming a permanent replacement and departing the Breakfast Show ??

OK wishful thinking!
