He was also honoured by PETA UK...
The singer was honoured by the animal charity PETA UK who sent him a personal birthday greeting from the Abbey Road crossing, reports Musicnews.com
The greeting, features a photo of a fish, a pig, a chicken and a cow all replicating the classic 'Abbey Road' album cover, crossing the road and carrying the signs 'Happy birthday Paul', 'Thank You', 'For Loving Us', 'Not Eating Us'.

David McCallum, Illya Kuryakin in The Men From U.N.C.L.E, celebrated his 79th today.
Mentioning this to my wife, she broke out into song, and had me find this...

I would have put Man From Uncle after Alma Cogan's time but would have (obviously) been wrong...
Rather nice pictures of Illya in that video....don't remember that song at all.. |

By all accounts it was the last thing she recorded, under the pseudonym of Angela and the Fans, in 1966. UNCLE was 1964-1968. _________________ Ron |

Well - it's congratulations today to
1 Alice Cooper - American rock legend,Vicar's son, reptile lover, keen golfer and general nice guy - 65 years old
2 Natalie Imbruglia - former Neighbours actress turned singer and general great Aussie Sheila - 38 years old
Oh Yes and I nearly forgot
3 Some bloke known as Ruddlescat - English lawyer, part time music presenter and general pain in the backside - 58 years old
I'm surprised he's still around - after all he's got more bad habits than a nun with no dress sense _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

Oh and by the way sorry for missing his name off the list - because I suppose if according to JV you're the great Helen May he must be famous by association _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

It's only a number, and you're only as old as the woman you feel, and all that baloney.
Some days I feel as though I'm still wet behind the ears, and others like Methuselah - it usually depends how deeply I read the newspaper, and if I spot a policeman, all of whom seem to be absurdly young these days.
Happy Birthday, ruddles. _________________ Ron |

Thanks everyone for your very kind comments - just arrived back from one of my favourite restaurants having partaken of a very large meal but with just one glass of wine as I was driving - so now I'm tucking into my large stock of left over New Year champagne
I certainly received some unusual presents this year quite apart from the usual selection of socks and handkerchiefs which I do appreciate as I rarely have the time or inclination these days to bother buying them
My younger son bought me a full luxury car valet both inside and out but as I jokingly said to him 'The car's birthday isn't until 5th July so what have you got for me'
Even more bizarrely my elder son actually arranged and paid for a Valentine's dinner next week at a restaurant near Knutsford with a lady I met about six weeks ago and about whom I have been banging on ever since but without having the courage to make contact
The thing is although it might have been love at first sight I have only spoken to her for less than five minutes and don't know anything about her apart from her name, address and telephone number and the fact that she has at least one son and I reckon she's probably at least ten years younger than me
Well I suppose it will be an interesting experience but it makes one think about the embarrassing situations kids get you into even when they're grown up _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

I saw him in Manchester both times at the Opera House Becky! Can you remember who else was on the bill?
First time Freddie Cannon, Bryan Hyland and Johnny Tillotson. Second time Chris Montez and the Shirelles (?) were on with him.

You're forgiven Becky! He was still sounding great when I saw him. I think he had his son backing him on the second show.

I loved Big Yellow Taxi when I was a teenager and had a bit of a crush on her back then.. helped along by the laughter as the song ends! really cute I thought.

She has a lovely voice now. Mind you, it had changed even by the time she was recording two early/mid 70s albums "The Hissing of Summer Lawns" and "Hejira" which I love. In fact, listen to the earlier "Court & Spark" and the difference is evident too.
That said, the giggle on the end of "Yellow Taxi" is very sexy! |

I have never listened to Joni. I was put off by Big Yellow Taxi which I didn't like, and her laugh at the end I found anything but sexy.
I liked the words though. You don't know what you've got till it's gone.
But anyone who wrote 'Woodstock' must be good. I shall listen to her stuff, going by the favourable comments here. |

I have a recording of John Peel playing tracks from The Hissing Of Summer Lawns on his late night R1 show. Back-announcing one song - The Boho Dance - he says: "It's very tempting for us DJs to employ superlatives when describing a record, but in this instance any superlative would in itself be superfluous."
I loved him for that!
I miss Peely. |

No,Raver, I hadn't heard that version before ...quite surprising (to me) how her voice has changed ..it's a smoky, intimate, cabaret kind of voice now.
(I have only just seen this post ...sometimes I get notifications of threads I post to and sometimes I don't!)
Keith Richards is 70 today!!
Quite how he has got here he himself would wonder, I think, but here he is celebrating his 70th birthday today!
Seems like only yesterday....was in 2006.... that he fell out of that tree in Fiji
Happy Birthday Keith!!
This song co-written by him with Jagger has always been a favourite of mine.

I absolutely love Charlie's very simple, no-nonsense but beautifully consistent drumming through the entirety of that song. It's a great riff repeated over and over - and bang on the beat throughout! |

John Williams is 82 today
I have often thrilled to the sound of his wonderful music
In a glittering career he has won 5 Academy Awards, 4 Golden Globe Awards, 7 British Academy Film Awards and 21 Grammy Awards.
One of his more reflective pieces...
