Peter Cook on Clive Anderson near the end but still as sharp as ever.
Jeff Buckely Halleluyah originally by Leonard Cohen IMO the definitive version _________________ You will hear gospel and rhythm and blues and jazz, all those are just labels, we know that music is music. |

Thank you everyone for your kind wishes and yes my uncle did get his letter from Her Majesty about which he was really thrilled
It was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon but by 4pm the birthday boy was getting a little tired so we decided to cancel the plan of adjourning to the local pub but the party might continue a bit later so if I start posting unintelligible gobbledegook you'll all know why or at least that's my story and I'm sticking to it _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

Hi Becky!
Actually that ELO track wasn't bad. My main gripe on the old R2 message boards was the number of times that ELO were played every day. Apparently they were/are the Head of Radio 2's favourite band, and it certainly shows.
I've always admired Bev Bevan and a few days ago was listening to The Move's first album which has some good drumming. |

Bandleader Edmundo Ros hits the mighty age of 100 today!
He was a familiar voice to those of us who grew up with the Light Programme.
Anyone any idea how he's doing?

No I will have to look out for it, I'll see if there is a yt clip. I got really into NYPD Blue while it was on Channel 4 but then they switched it to one of the Sky channels for the last series and as yet have still not seen it, Andy was such a great character _________________ You will hear gospel and rhythm and blues and jazz, all those are just labels, we know that music is music. |

Yesterday Davy Jones and Mike Nesmith celebrated their birthdays, and Chris Hawkins played the Monkees theme tune on 6 Music in reference to it.
No wonder they fell apart as a band - two stubborn Capricorns in the same place! _________________ We are loonies and we are proud!

Mike Nesmith was, in my opinion, the most talented of them in terms of his songwriting skills. I have an LP of his from the early 70s which is excellent. I can't remember the name (I haven't played it for over 30 years) but I must digitise it sometime. |

Jarvis Cocker on 6 Music today mentioned Scott Walker's birthday - he's already played 'After The Lights Go Down', 'Mrs. Murphy', and 'The Lady Came From Baltimore'.
He also said it would have been Gracie Fields's birthday (BBC-4 ran 'Gracie' last night) and he played the theme tune from 'the Killing Of Sister George' in reference to that of Susannah York.
The Sunday supplements also referred to well-known commoner Kate Middleton. _________________ We are loonies and we are proud!

Jarvis also mentioned David Johansen, formerly of the New York Dolls - he was in Scrooged over Christmas as the ghostly taxi driver!
Here's To You by Joan Baez was also played. _________________ We are loonies and we are proud!
