No, she was fabulous, happy, jolly, effusive, vivacious and fun to listen to. She has at least one fan already. I may even send her some fan mail. Smile

Even at 8 am she was too jolly for me. Her voice is only marginally less annoying than Evans and that is saying something.

I see we have her ugly mug all over the R2 page as well.

Helen, I'm so glad you posted the above because it now means that I really can avoid tuning in forever! What with that silly, arrogant woman doing the early shift and that prat Evans on afterwards, there's yet another reason to seek out the much better alternatives that exist out there on the air and online.

Yes good to hear a presenter more like SK , and with a relaxed style for the time day, than the usual standins. No mass textins of LP or RA etc, or shouting. I agree the voice is a bit high pitched but she can't change that. Very Happy

and great to hear she didn't talk over any part of the records that I heard, she could teach a few others the trick Very Happy

If she's like SK what on earth is the point of having her

You people who liked the show done by SK might just as well have SK back

Probably a lot cheaper option if you like that kind of thing which I for one don't Sad

Feltz is nothing like Sarah Kennedy and never will be.

Whether you think that is a good or bad thing depends on what you thought of Sarah!

Her style of show (so far) is more like SK than the standins we have had on as I explained above.

As far as I recall the general consensus was that SK was pushed out so what I am saying is that this was a pointless exercise if you then pay vast sums of money to recruit someone who is described as being like her

Personally I didn't like SK's style although I had the highest regard for her as a broadcaster and I think Helen is right when she suggests the similarities between her and the dreaded Feltz woman are limited to say the least

I frankly don't understand why anyone should have some kind of obsession about stand in presenters as in my experience often they are better than the person for whom they are standing in

A good example is when Dale stood in for Steve Wright and when Lynn Parsons stands in for the screeching Zoe Ball I doubt many people would complain
I'm sure there are lots of other examples

Anyway SK was ok in the main, if she was pushed out, it wasn't for being this way or that way, it was for being inconsistent day to day and a little unpredictable on air but she did inconsistent and unpredictability with the very best of style, and with a sense of humour that only those with some intelligence could understand.

Vanessa is fab though.

Laughing Laughing Cool

And another thing....

Why does everyone assume that Vanessa Felz is more expensive than Sarah Kennedy?

I think most people who have run businesses know that it is generally cheaper to retain an existing member of staff than it is to recruit a new one

I can't see Ms FELTZ doing the BBC any favours on that front
After all I assume they approached her rather than the reverse

But the BBC has very few staff on the books these days. All the "talent" (and I use that word with care) are freelance or on freelance contract, as are many of the production and technical staff.

I doubt that makes any difference though Colin

I think a new recruit would end up with a higher contract fee than that paid to an existing presenter in the same slot particularly if the new recruit was head hunted as would seem to be the case here

As I'm sure most people know often members of staff either contract or salaried threaten to leave a post just to secure a pay rise without having any real intention of doing so

It's all just part of the posturing associated with the jobs market for people whose services are in demand

The point I was making was that each of the presenters on R2's roster will enjoy a fee that's (in the main) negotiated on their behalf by their agent, so the retaining of the services on one existing freelance who is "on the books" over a new, incoming, freelance won't really mean much in the current climate.

Not all presenters are/have been represented by agents, of course; Sarah Kennedy wasn't but I'll put money on it that the Feltz woman is.

If that's indicative of what The Gob 1 and The Gob 2 might cost, how much would a good presenter cost, Rach me ol' love?

For working on BBC London and Radio 2? Or does she get 250k - 350K for each station? It's alledged Steve Wright earns an annual salary of 440K.

Nope. The BBC normally negotiates an "all-in" fee for its "talent" (again, I use the term carefully when referring to Evans and Feltz).

If the corporation was paying that kind of money for each of Feltz's commitments then I think I'd start the revolution right now.

Not bad for someone who continues to recycle his 1980s material. I want a refund or at least a discount - let's say 440k?

I'd really like to read a thread (a continuous and interesting one) written by members who LISTEN TO VANESSA's show.

Keep this thread going (I'll change the title slightly maybe) but please can we have a thread written by members who LISTEN TO VANESSA's show?
Confused

A fair request is it not?

I did hear the paper review 20 minutes into the show. She did seem to receive some welcome emails from her loyal BBC London listeners - ( sorry Radio 2 early breakfast listeners ) Laughing Lets give her a chance. It was her first day. It will be a surprise to hear her covering for Mr Vine in the near future. That will be another discussion for some of you to slag her down - ( mean talk about. )

I agree Mark.

As suggested in my previous posting above, I've changed the title of this thread (it started last year).

So Rachel, Fred and others who listen, you are welcome to start a new thread about Vanessa and her Early Breakfast show.

I suppose that will depend how long said folk can listen to the show (I would suspect those that like Evans will stay the course if they can) Even in the Lynn Parsons / Aled Jones and even Sarah Kennedy's Dawn Patrol days, I could only manage til 6:00am, that's due to work rather than not enjoying the presenter. I'm afraid I couldn't manage that first hour this morning before going to 6 music. Having read that Evans & his sycophants invaded the studio, I'm glad I deserted in time. This isn't the radio 2 I like or want, more like the Radio 1 I was evicted from in the early 1990s.

No Helen, I suggested a thread for folks who LISTEN to Vanessa's show, a continuous thread for comments from day to day, negative and positive comments.

There's a gripes section on this forum for folks who have a gripes about shows that they don't listen to.

To me a lot of the regular R2 standins are simply boring with their 'text / email me' routines it's just a repetitive time filling exercise every day.

No one who has ever stood in for KB has been better than him, SK standins were never as good at that time of day for waht I want to listen to.

I'll give you anyone who stands in for JV is better Very Happy

if we don't get some variation with VF etc then daytime R2 is just going to be a ex-R1 80/90s pop station before long Rolling Eyes

Radio One was very good in the Eighties and the problems started when that dreadful Bannister person started messing around with a popular station with some quality presenters many of whom have never graced Radio 2 although they undoubtedly should

So far a Jeremy Vine is concerned in my opinion he is better than any of his stand in colleagues with the possible exception of Jane Hill

Most people here seemed to think that Madeley was better than Evans (not hard though)

I agree that Ken has not yet been surpassed but I think both Alex Lester and Mark Goodier came pretty close

People should judge stand ins on their merits not on anything else and at least a couple should have regular daily shows on Radio 2 by now

So conversations aren't allowed to flow now? Something else that the BBC doesn't like.

Why have 2 threads about the same thing? Waste of time trying to find the one you contributed to.

It seems to me that if we are effectively going to have a form of apartheid where there are seperate threads for those who like a certain presenter and those who don't it's going to cut out all discussion and has the potential to lead to a very boring forum

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding the position but as far as I can see if people visit a forum they must expect to read some things they disagree with and of course they can post their own views
Also as I am sure people already know one of my pet hates on here is multiple threads

I think we're making a mountain out of a molehill here.

Now that her show has actually started it does make sense to have a thread in the Shows section, for people who actually listen to it to make their comments, favourable or otherwise.

If there's a special or major complaint about the show, rather than one's personal dislike of the personality, then perhaps the Gripes section is the best place to air that.

This thread, and its 117 messages, has more than served its purpose, and, like many another, is like a worn-out recording, and time-expired. She's here now, time to let it rest.

All I was suggesting was that this thread, started last year, was about the impending arrival of Vannesa, and folks freely commented about whether they rejoiced or were dismayed, and they can continue to do so forever.

Since her show actually started today, I thought folks who listened to her show could start a new thread, up to them.

I have contributed to neither (other than these suggestions), all I'm doing is responding to PM's and complaints which is what I'm supposed to do.

Carry on Rolling Eyes
