Colin you should try it
A moist meat unlike Turkey which when overcooked can be very dry
And you can use the fat to make unbelievably fantastic roast potatoes and there is generally far more taste in it than Turkey
The difference in price for equivalent free range birds is not that great
I used to eat Goose at Christmas as a young child and went back to it about five years ago but I still get in a small Turkey for the none goose fraternity _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

We have Turkey for lunch every other week for our residents, alternating with Beef, but Turkey is my favourite without doubt..
Mrs SFF also buys a Turkey joint from Tesco with some kind of seasoning on the top.. don't know what it is but it's bootiful
Yes, Turkey at Christmas with cold Turkey, mash and pickle on Boxing Day! lubbly... _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

I think you're all a bunch of miseries.
The Christian festival of Advent has started, so there's no reason why the occasional carol can't be aired now.
"Christmas" pop songs are just like any other pop, except they've got Christmas in the title, or references, to a greater or lesser extent, to all of the commercial, party and (perhaps) sentimental activity that goes on at the time. By and large they're cheerful, and we could do with some of that - Bring them on!

Each to their own. I think it's awful, but then I think Christmas has been ruined by commercialism anyhow. |

Now I am a real humbug over Christmas, it does nothing to me aart from stress me out, and my work are so busy the week before that I end up pulling my hair out. I love Boxing day however, no pressure and a day off
I went to get a present for my OH on Saturday and they has the christmas cd on, I commented that give it three weeks and you will want someone to kill her, she agreed. I am reminded of that scene in the Simpsons where they go to a theme park and Marge and Homer go into a building that is NYE every day, Marge says to the waiter "isn't it great to be NY every day ?" he replies "kill me now"
Fairytale of NY - Pogues and KM the only christmas song that isn't cheesy _________________ You will hear gospel and rhythm and blues and jazz, all those are just labels, we know that music is music. |

Not a fan of Christmas songs but I quite liked Brenda Lee's (& the later vid remake by Mel & Kim) of Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree.
Steeleye Span's "All Around My Hat" was not a Christmas song but I always think of it as such. A hit around Christmas in 1975 |

Yes Clive I love ' All Around my Hat' and Steeleye Span in general
I recommend the CD 'A Parcel of Steeleye Span' Their First Five Chrysalis Albums 1972-1975 which is excellent and fantastic value for money
This is how folk music should be played in my view- very loudly on electric guitars in your face
As for Christmas I usually regard it as an inconvenience which keeps me waiting for New Year which I generally do look forward to but really I'm not so sure about 2011
I think it could be a very bad year for many people in this country _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

Favourite Christmas songs:
December Will Be Magic Again (Kate Bush)
For Christ's Sake (IQ) - their medley of 'God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen' and 'Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas'
Don't Let The Bells End (The Darkness)
Alan Parsons In A Winter Wonderland (Grandaddy)
Least favourite:
Jingle Bell Rock (Max Bygraves)
Santa Baby (Madonna) - where she sounds like Jimmy Osmond
Wonderful Christmas Time (Paul McCartney) _________________ We are loonies and we are proud!

I love Christmas.
Christmas music is part of it but on R2 in shouldn't start until December as it can get rather repetitive.
I really prefer the Christmas related classical music so it will mainly be Classic FM & R3 for me over the festive period.
Indicently Colin - I will be having a meat free Christmas too. _________________ Dharma Cat

I love the Christmas songs, bring 'em on.
Helen, Steve W only played Away In A Manger because Aled Jones was on promoting his Christmas album and I bet you it will never be played again (sadly).
What I think is bad is that Radio 2 hardly play any of the classic Xmas songs any more.
I guarantee it'll be mainly George Michael's song or Gabriella Cilmi's one over and over.
Even worse, they will probably start playin Coldplays supposed Xmas song, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. |

I wasn't listening to Steve but switched on just as it started so promptly switched off before the ending.
I agree with you about the classic Christmas songs though, you just don't hear them anymore.

If you listen to Heart, Magic or Smooth - expecially out of those three Heart, you will hear Wham - Last Christmas being played non stop.
I think Radio 2 will play the classics near christmas, but the station does like to be different to the rest. |

I have my doubts that you will Mark. Hardly any were played last year, unless you listened to David Jacobs or Alan Titchmarsh who play a few of them.

My favourite Christmas songs are
Gaudete by Steeleye Span
In Dulci Jubilo by Mike Oldfield
I must have a thing about songs with Latin titles |

Well I don't normally listen to those awful stations - and you've just given me a good reason to continue with my abstinence.

No it doesn't! Are you listening to the same Radio 2 as me? Are there regional variations?

I never hear any of Kevin Bl**dy Wilson's Christmas songs on Radio 2, is it just because I miss them or are they never played. |

They have Nick. It always used to be the beginning of next week when they started with them. I don't mind a few now we are well into December though.

I'm sure we'll get more than a few, Helen. I think we should put together a check-list of the ones we know they'll play and tick 'em off every time they play them! |

Rockit Ron, is the cash register in Stan Freberg's 'Green Christmas' the same one Roy Wood sampled for the start of 'I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday'?
It could be said that Freberg used the cash register effect long before Ronnie Hazlehurst on the Are You Being Served theme tune AND Pink Floyd's 'Money'! _________________ We are loonies and we are proud!

I actually think they're playing less this week than last week - maybe they listened to us. I don't feel Christmassey yet, even with the snow - but I did feel it about a month ago. |

Has Mike Harding or Bob Harris played Thea Gilmore's 'That'll Be Christmas' this year? I heard this on the BBC Four Christmas Session from last year and it sums up family Christmases just right!
I also heard 'Everything's Gonna Be Cool This Christmas' (Eels) in Next yesterday, so they've got good taste. _________________ We are loonies and we are proud!
