Tonight we had Chris discovering the joys of testing for diabetes. Tomorrow Sally has promised to bring in her blood pressure monitor so that he can subject the production team to the same indignities. No doubt by Thursday he will be conducting cervical smears. I can't even bring myself to mention how my husband responded when I suggested that this might be the case. Suffice it to say that he suggested that CE might stand first in line for this... for reasons which he felt were self explanatory. Embarassed

That's the difference with Chris, he's not frightened explore new territory and expand the horizons of broadcasting. The drive time stand-ins just churn out, tried tested and "safe" but where's the fun in that? I call them leggo shows.

I never normally listen either - usually only listen to it again when he's on holiday - but the odd bits I do happen to catch aren't to me liking Sad

Anyway its far too late for CE to discover medicine, he's beyond medical help, IMHO.

I like his show, but I'm convinced it's all the features he introduces are a cover up and there is something strange about him which I can't put my finger on.

One maybe " I'm back at the BBC and need to be a good boy" wants to be a wild child, but not aloud too?

Its fulfilling the remit to do current affairs in an open and accessible manner which is what Radio 2 has comitted to do. And he has succeeded in re-inventing topics such as business, food & cooking and now health in ways that others just cant do.

Come on ernie, you will have us believe he has re-invented the wheel, what goes round comes around again. I still think that the business & sports news were so much better without that irritating hyper R1 type music in the back ground. I believe that if it ain't broke don't fix it, as you usually just get yourself in a fix Exclamation

No but its the little innovations in radio that make the difference

That's a point of view alright. The alternative arguement is that business and sport are ghettos that usually only appeal to minorities with FTSE prices and racing results etc. Everybody's done that a 1,000 times already. Anybody who can bring a subject to a wider audience while still retaining the core essentially is ok in my book.

I thought it was quite something when Martin played those great guitar riffs on business news with Johnnie, just a tad more innovative than the supermarket music in CE's Driveltime business news, IMHO. I don't see that CE has brought anything innovative to R2 what so ever, RA's show on Saturday afternoons was great, CE just introduced an ego rant. Drivetime was just a perfect wind down for the drive home when Johnnie, Stuart or Richard did it, now its just a manic wind up, IMHO.

Barking Biker you are so true

I loved the guitar playing MArtin -what happed to him, doesn anyone know?
(I loved his voice and thought he was about 20... then got a bit dissapointed when I saw him on the website Rolling Eyes
then for children in need some famous guitar band dude phoned in and said he's pay money for Martin NOT to play whatever song it was
ah, the good old days!

Martin Shankleman is still a business correspondent for the BBC, I cannot remember exactly what his role is, or "Basher Ballard" for that matter, who, amongst others, used to do the sports news on the thinking mans/womans Drivetime, presented by Johnnie Walker.

Come on guys Chris is an entertainer, and he has to bring some spark to the show. Dont get too blinkered with Chris way of broadcasting. It's like a newspaper dont believe everything you read.

Anyway this is my point of view and nothing against him trying to whoo the listeners. He admits to himself why do people listen ( Maybe to an old timer from the radio & tv? )

I'm with you Rachel, he is about as smooth as a b*****d file ( that is a correct engineering term :- course file that is almost a rasp) IMHO, and just makes me go for the off or retune button.

I had high blood pressure with headaches just before christmas, and I had to have it taken over a three week period. The first was 140/98 if I have got that the right way around?

I believe 120/80 or thereabouts is the norm for a healthy human - so if so, yes, your readings are correct for hypertension.

oh, no - I would have to disagree - nothing fancy, no expensive presents or dinners... it's (as Lily Allen quite rightly says) the Littlest Things that are important - just a nice wee trip out would be better... irrisistable is the musical ones who could sing you a song
How this relates to Evans I don't know and I should probably just shut up! Rolling Eyes

One can only live in hope.

Personally I would settle for him discovering a little sensitivity. Or a little subject knowledge. Tonight he was looking forward to hearing Anthony Davison being interviewed about ... er "driving with all those other famous drivers". His contribution to the sports interview (as he simply has to contribute to/undermine all the specialist presenters' interviews) was to ask what the interior of Reubens Barrichello's private jet was like. Deeply insightful Chris. Just what we F1 fans wanted to know about. Now grow up!

Though Anthony Davison came up with a superbly laconic response to CE's (again deeply insightful) question " who do you think you are better than?" Not sure CE appreciated the response " Michael Schumacher". Laughing
