As it was the Christmas Countdown I thought I'd tune in to this yesterday, and I must say I'd be hard pressed to find a worse show on the BBC right now. Even shows I dislike (eg Alan Carr) manage to do what they aim to, but all this programme should do is count down the records from 40 to 1 in the correct order - and can't even manage that!
At the helm is chatterbox Reggie Yates, the Man Who Killed Top of The Pops, and devoid of any self-awareness at all. He just keeps gibbering on about himself, as if he's barely noticed he's actually broadcasting this crap.
He goes on and on about competitions, texts, jingles, guests, last week's radio, next week's radio, twitter, facebook, etc. Anything apart from playing records and telling you about them!
One half-hour included the following strand:
"Hey The Wanted will be here in the studio later"
"Coming Up - The Wanted"
"The Wanted are here"
"That was The Wanted - let's hear what they said"
"Earlier on we heard from The Wanted"
It's assuming every listener is thick with zero attention span, which is massively insulting. It's no wonder the ratings have plummeted and I doubt a round of "Feel The Celebrity" or pointless interviews with the girl at Number 66 (yes, really) will change that.
The chart is quite varied at the moment and it could have been a good Christmassy countdown but no-one in charge has any clue what the show should be about. They'll say people aren't interested in the charts any more but I'd argue it's this sort of approach to things that has contributed to the disinterest.
Rant over. |

Have to say I didn't even know they still did a Chart show! Since Radio 1 doesn't ever cross my radar I suppose that's not surprising. How long will it be before Mr Yates is recruited by the "wonderful" Radio 2 controller? _________________ MiS |

Varied compared to a few months ago when it seemed to be wall-to-wall Sparky's Magic Piano (or RnB, as it's apparently now known) |
