With apologies if Mark O has already posted this somewhere!
Late broadcasting legend John Peel is to return to the airwaves, as the BBC airs a series of his finest moments.
The DJ, who championed scores of bands during his four-decade presenting career, will be brought back to radio this week on 6 Music.
And the DJ, who famously struggled to even manage to play vinyl records at the correct speed, will then be given a technological makeover when the programmes are later available as a podcast for the first time.

well done BBC,
I was just talking the other day that there is very little Peel around on the internet. Most of the time i'd listen to it for Peel not the music, just to listen to him waffle on again will be nice _________________ You will hear gospel and rhythm and blues and jazz, all those are just labels, we know that music is music. |

I have a recording of John Peel's "Friday Night Is Boogie Night" show on Radio 1 (using Radio 2's FM frequency at 10.00-12.00pm) in which he plays tracks from the new Joni Mitchell album "The Hissing of Summer Lawns". Of "The Boho Dance" he comments: "The use of superlatives when describing music today is often unjustified, but in the case of this album it's reasonable to apply any superlative of one's choosing to what is a truly excellent album". This was delivered in his characteristically laid-back, often under-stated, presentation style.
I've been listening to Dancing Jack Peel since the early 70s and I miss his presence on radio hugely.
By the way, I went out and bought the album as soon as it became available and it remains one of my all-time favourites. Thanks John!!! |

Yes, I think Zane Lowe does a reasonable job on his show but he would be the first to admit he's no replacement.
The generation just hitting 30 will be the first to have grown up without his voice and music, they don't realise how much they miss him. _________________ You will hear gospel and rhythm and blues and jazz, all those are just labels, we know that music is music. |
