Having been immersed in sport and other things just lately I took some time out to listen to Tony today and LOVED the first chart ...so many of my favourites were played including Nature Boy by Bobby Darin.
I've recorded the second chart and hopefully will find time to listen to it |

It's a great deal better than the first offering IMHO which reminded me of SOTS on a bad day - no sorry cancel that - SOTS on a normal day

I did like Tony's line to one listener who thought the show was moving to Friday...
"No, that's the modern chart that's moving to Friday. We're different, we're the ones with the good music." |

I liked the first chart and you liked the second one,ruddles.
On that evidence I reckon that Tony's programme did a good job yesterday!

| 1974 was certainly a better year than 1961, but even I have to admit that Billy Fury's Halfway To Paradise and Linda Scott's Every Little Star are great songs, as was the Helen Shapiro one. |

I don't agree,Schiz...it wasn't for me. As has been said numerous times before it's all a question of musical preferences. |

We haven't got a Paul Paul Gambaccini POTP thread but instead of starting one I'll stick this post on here..
Catching up with POTP today I heard the first song Costafine Town by Splinter and thought that's my track for today...then Paul played Barry White's You're My First,My Last,My Everything and then Da Doo Ron Ron by The Crystals ... Later there was one from Gary Shearston ..I Get A Kick Out Of You...and at the end of the 1974 chart he played the fabulous Hey There Lonely Girl by Eddie Holman.
Great edition ...My track of the day turned into my (half) programme of the day. |

I heard it yesterday and also 'listened again' this evening. It was a great chart (The Crystals one was of course from the early 60s). I love Sad Sweet Dreamer, a perfect pop song. Other highlights were Roxy Music, Gary Shearston, David Essex, and my favourite was the no.1, Ken Boothe's Everything I Own. Much better than the dreary original.
I even liked You're Having My Baby. A great chart, certainly better than the dreadful 1983 one which followed. |

I certainly enjoyed hearing 'All I Want Is You', one of my favourite Roxy Music tracks (along with 'Street Life') in the 1974 half. About the best from 1983 (IMO) was 'Synchronicity II' by Police.

At the risk of completely undermining my credibility on this forum it brought back wonderful memories to me when they played the Bay City Rollers track 'All Of Me Loves All Of You'
When I used to play keyboards in a covers band in Leicester in the mid seventies that track was one of our standards even though I hated it at the time and I could never quite get the timing right - if you listen carefully any person with musical training will grasp that the keyboard sound is a fraction of a second behind the vocals and other instruments
I spent many hours trying to get it right and generally I got away with it but it was never quite like the original 
By the way I agree - a very good chart

Ah, the 1983 wasn't the best but still full of loads of tunes I bought at the time but have long since forgotten and it was nice to hear again. |
