...by fish lately?
(This is what she's talking about, Chris)
http://appyfeet.co.uk/
Dip your feet in a bath of tiny fish which nibble at them, giving them a massage and removing hard, dry skin.

(You wash your feet in a slipper bath first, then before you go into the fishtank they slap some gel on them to make them attractive to the pisces.)
£10 for 15 mins... Cash, no cards.
One of those fast-growing businesses (a franchise?) which will probably be here today, gone tomorrow. The Nottingham one opened just before Christmas and was very busy then.... passed it the other day and it was completely empty (of customers). Hope the fish won't go hungry.
Has anyone tried it? _________________ Ron |

Are the fish edible? If the business fails- at least you'll get lunch.
Not sure I'd like to try it- looks like the sort of thing someone with an affectation would try...a bit too celeb for me. |

I haven't been tempted, I think it's one of those things you'd do as a bit of fun with a friend but not on your own. I know someone who has tried it - she said they tickle (so that's me out) and it wasn't unpleasant, but she wouldn't do it again.
I don't think they're edible.
"The practice is banned in several American states and Canadian provinces as cosmetology regulators believe the practice is unsanitary, with the Wall Street Journal claiming that "cosmetology regulations generally mandate that tools need to be discarded or sanitized after each use. But epidermis-eating fish are too expensive to throw away"
As you say it's an affectation, a fad, but it's filling a few holes in shopping malls for the moment. _________________ Ron |

I thought this was a wind up until I bought our local paper yesterday. A hairdressers in a nearby town has opened one of these up as a sideline.
Its said to be the hottest new beauty craze and has found favour with a host of celebrities including Katy Perry. The reporter who covered the story tried it out and said that after 20 minutes of chomping the garra rufa fish showed no signs of giving up. When she took her feet out of the tank and had them dried off and massaged they were barely recognisable! _________________ Pirate Johnnie Walker played my request on 11 April 2009 |
