|
|
This coming week Radio 2 are talking about parenting on the Jeremy Vine show.. Jeremy will be interviewing one of most popular parents on Radio 2 this coming Friday 25 March. Chris Evans, will discuss the highs and lows of being a father to a 23 year old daughter and two year old son.
I would have thought some other presenters like Ken Bruce or Simon Mayo would have also been a good choice to interview?.... Hey, what would I know when I have two girls...

Does anyone really think that Ken Bruce or Simon Mayo would ever get a look in with the Gobby idiot getting first choice over everything on our fast degenerating Radio 2 network?
Or perhaps they take the view that it's not a measure of good parenting to use ones children to boost ones own ego _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

"Parenting Week" on Radio 2? What a complete and utter load of cobblers!
Thank heavens there's so much good alternative choice to the increasing level of banality on R2.
(And who gives a toss what Captain Ego has to say on anything - let alone "parenting"?) |

I didn't know he had a 23 year old daughter! I'm surprised she hasn't been shoehorned in as an up-and-coming DJ. Or does she keep a low profile through sheer embarrassment? |

My thoughts exactly Colin when I heard JV promoting it on Ken's show yesterday. A complete turn off for me I'm afraid.
Why they have to get involved with these hairbrained 'weeks' is beyond me. It's the same when it comes to exam results time. Radio 1 would be far more appropriate for that!

I was driving up the M5 from Devon yesterday and as soon as JV came on and announcing what he'd be doing in the show I switched to my iPhone playlists which I listened to via the iTrip FM sender.
Sorry Jeremy - it's all too banal for me! |

I don't listen to any of these campaigns...but the trust kind of forced them onto Radio 2 supposedly to attract or serve a certain part of the audience they feel are being neglected.
Who would ever think to tune into Radio 2 for this? |

Of course, they couldn't find a better example of a parent than Motormouth Evans _________________ MiS |

As far as I can remember, Evans had bog-all to do with his daughter until very recently.
Perhaps his parenting advice is: ignore your child until its mother shames you into taking an interest... and the PR is a bonus _________________ He's not the Messiah- he's a very naughty boy! |

It was revealed back in 2008 that he had a meeting with his long lost daughter Jade Ward. It's a daughter from his former girlfriend Alison Ward. He did keep a little contact with his former g/f.. I suppose it's upto the kid if she wanted to meet her father and lucky for Chris she did.. I suppose it's lovely knowing he was able too do this... |

It also sums up that Radio 2 do a similar camapaigns what Radio 1 used to do. Oh, is R2 sounding like a new R1? |

Why is a radio station doing any kind of "campaign"? It's all rubbish! |

You wonder why Mark Radcliffe and Stuart Maconie didn't interview Kate Bush again re:her son Bertie. (Album plug alert!)
I bet Paul O'Grady's had more contact with his daughter than Evans had with his kids. _________________ We are loonies and we are proud!

This is a good thing for Radio 2 to do. There are all sorts of parents out there. I don’t get the knife in Chris Evans comments (well I do actually because it’s you lot) because he’s not had much contact with his daughter. Being apart from your children has an equally powerful effect on your and their lives as much if not more than any time you spend with them- that is worth talking about. |

Firstly, people are complaining because Evans is involved in damn near everything that's on the BBC these days, regardless of subject, and secondly, isn't R2 supposed to be a music station?
These "campaigns" smack of yet more Blair/Brown nanny state indoctrinations- "Don't do as we do, do as we say"
Next week- a campaign telling grannies how to suck eggs and the week after instructions on how to wipe your bottom....... _________________ He's not the Messiah- he's a very naughty boy! |

Was about to say Radio 2 is a music station as well or it's supposed to be but you've expressed my other thoughts on the subject as well PJ!

Yes it is a music station: the parenting thing , as far as I can tell, is on the Jezza Vine show- which is a music and TALK show and has been as long as I can remember: also there are lots of records about being parent and about being a child- so perhaps we'll get to hear some of those during the programme. As for any parenting advice any of the guests try to impart - well, it's much like any advice from anyone about anything- you can take it or leave it.
There was a time when Captain Wogan was all over Radio 2 and the BBC like a rash:- that seems to be the way of things- the big money players have to be at the table more often than the others. Seems pointless to vent ones dislike of that on here. |

Sadly sucking eggs will be banned these days due to salmonella, and after the other item will we have a repeat of JV learning how to wash his hands
Anyone got an old dog to teach new tricks ? |

You can't go teaching old dogs anything now- it might enrage the RSPCA!
Jordan will probably be available, though
(PS: Before anyone takes offence- I think the RSPCA are a brilliant organisation. My Hospital Radio station does the P.A at 2 of their big fund-raising events every year. They are a wonderful group of people who do great work.) Actually, it's really sad I felt compelled to add that PS

I used to lie about my age all the time- when I was in my early 30s I used to tell people that I was 45: one time on a training course I really pushed it to the limit, during the introduction part – you know, that bit everyone hates when you have to say who you are, where you come from and a little bit about yourself: I said that I was 53 – the look on the other women’s’ faces. That was nearly 10 years ago - I'm just about 10 years away from being 53 now. I always had this thing for older guys you see- still do really, and my rational was that they wouldn’t feel so pervy if I told them I was nearer to their age than I really was. It sort of worked now and again but I don’t think I’d put it down as a successful strategy. |
