Weekend Wogan returns on April 10.
Looks like they're changing the format a bit, returning to the studio if I read correctly. That looks like a new producer as well.

| Maybe the theatre is overbooked? Or the format just wasn't working, and costing to much. Some did moan about how it sounded... |

| It's the overheads to pay for radio theatre where it's cheaper to use the studio. Wise Buddah couldn't afford it. Or maybe this is a sign of winding down procedure.. |

I doubt if it's Wise Buddah who couldn't afford it. Do they do that kind of production anyway? I think I've only heard studio based shows that they have produced, correct me if I'm wrong.
Could be that Elio Pace's orchestra/band wanted to move on to do other things as well.

Last year it was produced by Alan Boyd, who is of course BBC staff, not brought in from an independant production company. Wise Buddah created the video.
The Radio Theatre version worked for a while but I thought towards the end of the year it was sounding a bit tired. Having the same house band each week probably didn't help!

| I'm one of STW's biggest fans but the show really didn't work for me. I think that maybe it was the wrong show for Sunday mornings and would have been better suited in an evening slot. Anyway I will tune in to the revamped show - it sounds like a format with which Terry would be comfortable. |

You do come up with some amusing theories, Mark. Productions are put out to contract on the basis of what the channel requires. If Shennan and co have decided that they no longer want a "theatre" style presentation then that's what is commissioned from the production company.
Can you really imagine WB going to Shennan and saying: "Look Bob, we know that you've commissioned the Wogan show in its theatre format but to be honest we can't afford that so can we just do it from the Radio 2 broom cupboard instead?".

Just when you thought it was safe to turn on your radio again, and avoid all Terry's Old Geezers and Gals, we're all back with a bang for 2011, with "Weekend Wogan" starting a new 18 week run on Radio 2, on Sunday, April 10th. This time, we're back in the studio, with live music, starry guests, and the usual unstructured, haphazard, devil-take-the-hindmost two hours of flight and fancy. Miss it at your peril...

You can't beat a bit of Captain Wogan.. You do know, of course, that Captain Wogan is an Government experiment- they're trying to establish just how long you can keep going into old age, so they can review the retirement age for everyone based on Wogan's performance and vital signs after each show. The nation's love for Captain Wogan will see the retirement age at 75 before you can say, is it me?

That's exactly why I don't listen to his shows and haven't for years
Far too much rambling talk from someone who clearly likes the sound of his own voice and Norton is exactly the same
We criticize Evans and others here but to me Wogan and Norton are equally as bad for self promotion and lacking in knowledge about the music they play

That's not what they're there for, of course. They're entertainers, and that's what they do - can't expect everybody to like it.
The phrase "I know what I like" also springs to mind - on the evidence of the music played today, we're not going to hear anything he doesn't like or know (more or less - the remark about Katrina & The Waves, and getting the title of the Alison Krauss wrong )

He said all the tracks were favourites of his, after the 2nd or 3rd on in.
Some of us actually like to hear someone's voice, if you don't want somebody talking in between tracks you'd be better off listening to CDs.
I for one thought it was great to have him, and the music he likes, back with us. Think they've got the format right this time.

I think Wise Buddah who are producing the show, did make the right discision. At the end of the day they want to produce good quality shows, not something which sounds awlful... |

It's not the producer who decides who reads Janet and John, only Boggy 'can' do them. All kinds of reasons why there aren't any, maybe Mick Sturbs has decided not to write anymore for one thing.

Like Janet & John.. Unfortunatly things sometimes need to come to an end. Maybe Wogan will soon...
I did hear at the beginning the usual stuff from the listeners.. " Why an't you at home putting your feet up with lady Wogan"... A question which hopefully be answered at some stage in the future... |
