Ian, I thought Chorley FM was something invented by Peter Kay, Neil Fitzmaurice and Dave Spikey for 'That Peter Kay Thing' and 'Phoenix Nights'!

Oooh, boy! Long story...

Yes, those three invented Chorley FM for That Peter Kay Thing, while in 'real life' several companies were vying for the actual Chorley radio broadcast licence. When Phoenix Nights became a huge hit, Chorley Council's Arts Officer hit upon the brilliant wheeze of naming their community station after the fictional one - because they thought Peter Kay would invest in the station!

But Peter Kay is a tight, selfish, man and in fact tried to sue them instead. In retaliation, they got Dave Spikey on board as their patron (Spikey, Kay, and Fitzmaurice do not get on) and claimed they'd lent the name to Kay in the first place!

The result of all this is that they can't sell any Chorley FM merchandise or Kay will sue, and they aren't taken seriously as a station because everyone thinks they're made-up. The Arts Officer (who also lumbered the station with a binding agreement to broadcast primarily to 15-24 year old LGBT people) got dismissed for for sexual harassment and is now on the Cultural Olympiad gravy train while Chorley FM are struggling.

They're not a bad little station, but have lots of things stacked against them.
