No one listening perhaps Helen!
Am listening just after 10 and enjoying Ken Bruce, or should that be Rob Bryden.

I am Helen, and for some reason I think Ken's voice sounds a little different from usual
Am I right?
The banter with Lynn to me gives it away-or am I getting completely paranoid _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

I'm enjoying it.
After hearing the dreadful April Fools on Chorley FM, Radio Lancashire and Radio 4 (3-D radio - what japes!) this is actually quite good fun. |

Yep I'm sure it's Rob Bryden!
Half and hour okay, but don't think I'll last the whole show!

I knew something was amiss, and yes, I think it's Rob Brydon, too.
Mildly amusing at first, but getting a bit tedious now, so CDs, I think! |

For one moment I thought it was time for the producer to pull the plug as he sounded drunk or drugged up, but the penny dropped pretty quickly, it isn't Ken. Good impression though. Dragging on a tad now, however. |

As Dalmatina said 'tedious', amusing to start with though.

I think Rob must have a much stronger consitution than good old Ken as I noticed we didn't get the usual long toilet break track today and got that irritating recent track by Eliza Doolittle instead
At least Jeremy Vine seems to be himself _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

I had begun to think I was sliding into Grumpy Old Womanhood, as it quickly palled ...!
I haven't been on here for months, because I'm listening to less and less Radio 2, so coming on felt like false pretences! I've been catching up, and seeing that I'm not alone in feeling that Radio 2 has very much lost its way.
And Ruddlescat, Jeremy Vine will probably be himself because his programme starts after 12 - and isn't that when the April Fool gets turned on the prankster? |

Ah yes Dalmatina, but because Jeremy Vine put in an appearance on Ken's show at 11 30am I thought they might have got an impersonator in to do the trailer
Perhaps someone like John Culshaw
I worked out that the first Popmaster contestant was Jo Brand but I'm still scratching my head as to who the second one was _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

Definitely not!
This is another reason I'm drifting away from Radio 2 - Vine's show is beginning to exhibit all the worst aspects of the Daily Mail, trivial subjects discussed by spittle-spraying schoolteachers, and that awful Rosie Millard now seems to have her own seat.
No, I'd quite welcome a Vine replacement! |

I think Jeremy Vine is an excellent presenter and better than any of the stand ins but I do agree the subject matter choosen for discussion can be rather too 'tabloid' for my liking
However I don't think Jeremy is necessarily responsible as I presume most of it is down the the producers of the show _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

You're right, the Editor and producers select the topics.

It's something I've normally avoided, because I am no fan of Jeremy Vine. Owing to circumstances I have been listening for the last couple of weeks, often growing exasperated enough to turn it off, as it wasn't even tolerable as aural wallpaper.
Not having listened for some time, I thought it had deteriorated markedly (from a not very high point to start with); and the parenting thing is positively emetic, but I see that there is actually a thread for that, so perhaps I'll mosey over there and have a rant!
Back to topic, I couldn't identify either of the Popmaster entrants, anyone got the definitive information? |

Two hours since the show finished and it's still not on Listen Again. Things are going to the dogs at Radio 2. Useless. |

Both the Breakfast Show and Ken Bruce are showing as available to Listen Again but neither work; both bring up their programme page instead of the Radio Player.
This message timed 1415 hours on Friday April 1st 2011.

Yeah, I've been trying to tell them for hours - but they thought I was doing an "april fools" on them. They finally believe me so are fixing it. |

I thought it was quite amusing, not quite sure if the Popmaster contestants we in on it or not, one would imagine so.
It shows what a good sport Ken is, could you image Evans or Wrighty to allow themselves to be lampooned in the same way?
As I don't tune into R2 until 10am, I have just heard on the hand over from Evans on Steve Wright, I cannot believe that Evans didn't realise, but there again he's so up his own that he wouldn't........ |

Well I thought it was hilarious, particularly the Popmaster contestants. I loved the "so you are a heavy drinker" line to the chap, it turned out he meant he campaigns for real ale.
Did anybody notice Peter Serafinowicz as Terry Wogan? |

I've always like Rob Brydon when he's done Radio 2 shows anyway, so I enjoyed it and thought it was rather entertaining. I wouldn't want it every day, he wasn't quite the same as Ken Bruce but it was only a bit of fun for April Fools' Day, so a great one off. _________________ Fred Hart

As I said before I thought it was a bit overlong. Amusing to start but I didn't have the time to listen intently so after a while it annoyed me. This morning I'd have preferred the 'normal' Ken.

Didn't he do it before? It was entertaining.. It's not as if know one actually knew what was going on after a while!! Maybe Ken was speaking during some links? |

For the first couple of minutes I thought KB was drunk or maybe planning "professional suicide by radio" a la DLT all those years ago. Then I realised it was probably Rob Brydon. It went on a little bit too long for my liking - if they'd come clean after Popmaster (having KB as a contestant for instance) that would have been fine. _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”
