I have just been sent this, apologies if it has already been seen!

3 April 2011

Just
to let you know that with the closing down of the BBC Radio 4 and 7
messageboards last week we have decided to open the forum up to all BBC
Radio listeners, you will now be able to find us here
www.bbcradioforum. co.uk and here www.bbclocalradiofo rum.co.uk all
welcome, discuss, debate, celebrate just please play nicely.

There
are enough rather 'toxic' places for 'discussions' on the internet and
we have no
intention of becoming one of them. It would be nice to be able to get
some links to the forum onto the BBC sites as they already carry other
external groups and local newspaper links, so if anyone reading this
from the BBC knows the best way of going about that, please drop us a
line, thank you. Of course I hope it goes without saying
that if there is anything we are not doing on the forum that you think
we should
be, please don't be shy, put your ideas forward.

Secondly,
thanks to the tireless and thankless work by some forum members and
those running the 'Save' Facebook campaigns, the petition to save BBC
Local Radio now has over 300 signatures and is heading towards 500
Facebook 'likes'. If you have not added your name and would like to,
can be found here
http://www.petition buzz.com/ petitions/ theindependentbb c Please also
forward it to anyone you think may feel the same.

On Tuesday
there is a debate by MPs in Westminster Hall about BBC local radio and
also and Early Day Motion has been proposed by Therese Coffey, as I
write it has 62 signatures, it requires 100 before it is taken seriously
so if your MP hasn't signed it and you would like to ask them to get
involved, there is a link here
http://www.bbclocal radioforum. co.uk/index. php?topic= 68.0 which makes it easy to do so.

It
is important I think to say that whilst it's entirely possible that
the BBC Local Radio/5Live suggestion will not be taken up, it is likely
that the BBC will attempt measures to 'regionalise' certain output,
there are already trials taking place in Yorkshire and in the South East
and we have seen specialist music programs replaced in the Midlands by
shared output. Whilst economies 'have' to be made within the BBC, we
do not believe cuts of front line public service broadcasting is the
way it should be done. Local radio is a unique and invaluable asset to
communities and the country as a whole.

Right I'm putting my soapbox away and will let you enjoy your Sunday, hope it's a good one.

Best regards.

Darcy
