Did anyone see Kirsty Wark on Newsnight talking to the D.G of the BBC, the night they announced the licence fee increase?

She kept asking him how he could justify wasting all that money employing Ross. As one would expect, he didn't have a straight answer.

It's criminal when you think about it-I wouldn't mind if the guy had an ounce of talent and at least able to go some way towards justifying them employing him.

Lets hope, now there's a shortfall in the Beeb's budget, the likes of Ross and Evans will be the first to go Smile

Why would they sack him if he's done nothing wrong? You can't blame Ross for signing the contract he was offered and so long as he is fullfiling that contract to sack him would be unfair dismissal.

Ross is one of the few people who can compere a big event and make it memorable. Think of the annual Comedy Awards. Very few presenters have what it takes to do these big events. Also very few presenters, especially in an age of media fragmentation, are household names any more.

Of course the market for talent is a very grey area. You get an agent to negotiate for you and get the best deal available. If BBC, ITV or Channel 4 thought they could get big ratings without him they wouldnt pay.

But I think the BBC miscalculated things a bit in the last few years. The ad market is declining which has undermined ITV & Ch4's buying power. Therefore in retrospect the BBC over paid for top talent. Guys like Wogan, Norton & Ross probably didnt have too many viable options to get the same money elsewhere, although I could see Ross presenting a chat show on ITV or 4 for big money.

Ant & Dec are on something like £10m per year so Ross is not so expensive after all.

The problem I see is when they get rid of all the good presenters that cost too-much (in some peoples view), we will simply be left with the dross, fill-in types and a standard boring format. Crying or Very sad
How does that make them different to ILR ?

Not many Ross threads on this forum, I wonder why?

Just had him on for five minutes, they've got a farmer on the phone, poor guy is allowed two-word answers like '10 acres' or 'barley, wheat' while Ross goes on and on about cannabis and rape and what the hell else pops into his head relentless chatter and flippin nonsense.

Oh it's a new competition, and it's........ absolutely stupid stuff............

Do what I do, John - don't listen to his show at all - you'll just get upset and annoyed if you do. Rolling Eyes

Saturday mornings = "Listen Again" or whatever new CDs I've bought in the previous week.

Maybe because most of us just don't consider he is R2 material.

I agree John W-I listened to the whole of this show earlier today on a long car journey-I thought it was very average.

The choice of music is also so poor as well. The quiz was actually the highlight for me although the farmer did not win.

Remind me again JR has a £18 milion contract with BBC-the "radio bit" of his contract represents poor value for money imho.

I think they should have a serious music show on at this time instead-something like Allinsons Albums.

At least have someone who does not rely on innuendo for laughs.

Its a fine British tradition; the end of the pier humour. Double entendres rule!

I have to say having suffered Ross for 2 hours today I suddenly could not stop laughing at his "poking fun at Kenny Rogers" and his liking for plastic surgery.

JR really let him have him it with both barrell's-up to that point I had not chuckled once.

Ernie - there is a difference between the end of the pier and the bottom of the gutter

Mr Ross has his moments. He may be all lovey with his his mates but when he gets going with some of the punters its very good. The crouton lady last week for example I liked a lot. Cool

He goes beyond innuendo, some of his comments are totally inappropriate for Saturday morning on what is family listening time. How auntie can go from the smooth SOTS to the course Wossy in 3 minutes is totally beyond me Evil or Very Mad

This is why I switch from R2 to Classic FM at 10am on Saturdays.

I think most of us that post on here switch off or retune at 10 every Saturday morning; for me it's either Classic FM, Planet Rock, The Jazz or CDs.

He does seem to be biting the hand that feeds him though. See he's in the news again about his comments on Saturday regarding the Beeb employing black people.

Not that i disagree it just seems like 2yes, I'll take the 4.3 million then go and slag you off!"

Seeing as how is £18m contract is actually to make shows (not just to present them) he should hire black people himself instead of whinging about it.

Hi Mike-I totally agree.

Overall his Saturday show is pretty average-not many laughs and the choice of music is naff in the main.

The Bowie music is the highlight really imho-the rest of the choices are totally unforgetable- I have never heard of most of them each time I tune in.
