I hate to pour water on various people's fire but I understand that in the last RAJARS the two presenters who put on more listeners were Vanessa and Zoe. Therefore the idea that Radio 2 are going to drop Ms. Ball anytime soon is nonsense.
I don't think Radio 2 are going to get shot of Ken Bruce in the near future but it is perfectly obvious that Zoe is being lined up as his eventual replacement.
John Suchet on Classic FM is more soothing. |

You do have to wonder about the lastes (and critical faculties) of The Great British Public, don't you? |

Or... seeing as they're roughly the same slot, maybe more people are getting up earlier than they used to? |

People don't have the luxury of lie ins anymore. They are on the go and tuning into more radio now. Obviously there is a choice for everyone these days. It proves that Radio 2 is above the leader board. |

Wrong. My wife and I have a much-welcomed lie-in at weekends and I know lots of others who do too. It's a great time to listen to SOTS, too. On what do you base your statement, Mark?

Given that much of British radio all sounds the same - same bland playlists, same stupid presentation formats, same silly voices spouting absolute rubbish most of the time - I'd say there's a lot less real choice on radio now. And as for Radio 2 - it's mostly crap!
Talking of which - is my intelligence being insulted when, at 6.35am each and EVERY weekday, a presenter shouts at me the following:
"If you want to be a member of the free Good Morning Chris Club then text me a message which starts with those words. If your message is read out, you'll hear this (sound of a honk) which confirms that you're a full member!"
My conclusion is that it is. Not only is this style of presentation so utterly and completely patronising to intelligent adults, but it's "dumbing-down" at its most severe. Will somebody please tell that idiot (and Radio 2's Controller) that we're not all complete imbeciles who'll be happy with any old rubbish at the beginning of the day?
If Radio 2 is "above the leader-board" then god help British radio and god help all of us who pay to subsidise the BBC.
Thank heavens for Radio Caroline - Britain's first and only album station - intelligent radio presented by intelligent people who don't treat their audiences like they're complete idiots. |
