The Red Planet is being broadcast each weekday at 6pm and midnight. Great to hear it again and especially hearing David Jacobs playing Frank Rogers plus almost all the other secondary characters back in 1954. Ah yes, I remember it well (I really do!) and it's STILL exciting. Midnight is more convenient so I'm keeping late hours until it finishes next week. |

Wasn't there a character called Lemmy in this?
I wondered if this was where Ian Kilmister as was got his moniker till I read it was because he was always asking 'Le' me a quid!' _________________ We are loonies and we are proud!

Yes, Lemmy was the Cockney Jewish member of the crew, first played by David Kossoff and then by Alfie Bass. He had a good long scene last night when he was hypnotised into thinking he was back in his east end home and was in severe danger of being forced to take off his space helmet by his parents but it was all a dastardly plot by some ex-crew members gone wrong and he was rescued by Jet and Doc just in time. Cor, exciting stuff and great late-night listening!
Andrew Faulds played the captain Jet Morgan and later became a Labour MP.
I've never heard of Ian Kilmister, tho' I suppose I should have. |

He was / is in Motorhead, best known for 'Ace Of Spades' as that is just about the only track of their's heard on radio, when they decide to play one that is! He was in Hawkwind (most famous for 'Silver Machine) before that. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

Thank you My Lord, I've heard of Motorhead but nothing else in your post.
I've just played a bit of Ace of Spades on YouTube - no wonder it passed me by! Is it music? |

Another fab band that toured extensively in the 70s and were favourites about the long-haired, great-coated "weekend hippies" - otherwise known as school sixth-formers!
Their live version of "Silver Machine" used to go on for hours. Or was it weeks? |

Enthralled yet again by The World in Peril. It was scary last night. The fab four are on their way back to Mars to find out more about the threatened invasion of Earth. Jet and Lemmy have gone out from the ship to one of the unmanned freighters in order to connect the re-fuelling pipe. On entering the freighter they hear a faint unintelligible voice calling out from the upper deck. It sounds uncannily like David Jacobs in one of his many roles as "conditioned" humans under the control of the Martians. He played other roles too!
I loved the original broadcasts as a young teenager and am still a fan (can you tell? .) |
