Thanks Eileen and Raver. I'm so pleased I can hear him play again.
We were up at his house again this week (just put it on the market) and there was an empty minidisc cover with 'Me on Clavinova' (the last piano he had) written on it. I've not located that disc yet but I've still to go through a box of them.........

Sounds like you have found a veritable treasure trove,Helen.
I heard today, on the Jeremy Vine (Paddy O'Connell sitting in ) programme, about a 94 year old woman, called Jean Bishop, who has been dressing up as a bee for 25 years, collecting for charity in her native Hull She would have made anyone smile listening to her..what a lovely woman.

I missed that Becky but sounds amusing!
It's taking us forever to clear the house Becky, some nice memories and some things I know nothing at all about!

Claire Runacres using a very unscripted and non BBC word when reading the news bulletin - I think it was at 11am during the KB Show
I could hardly believe my ears
Have a listen and you'll be shocked - I never thought she had it in her _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

I am about to re-start clearing my mother's flat. She is 98 and in a nursing home. I know that my Dad made tape recordings of my two sons talking when they were little and the tapes are somewhere there so I'm looking forward to finding them. |

I looked at the blue tits' nest today, the one with the camera inside, to see what progress there has been. There were 7 eggs at the last count and the female is now incubating them. While I was watching, her partner flew in with a tasty morsel for her
It's now Wednesday and I just saw the female leave the nest, presumably to find herself some food, and I could see clearly that there are 9 eggs. |

I have two nesting boxes,Eileen and saw blue tits having a look in them earlier on in the year but they must have decided they didn't want to nest there..well not this year...maybe next.
How lovely for you to be able to watch them so closely. |

Yes, Becky, it is quite a treat to watch them - I shall also be watching next door's cat very closely in a few weeks time . Her owner feeds birds but believed the rescue cat home where she got this cat when they told her that because it is white, she will never be able to catch birds. Wrong!! She was seen catching one of my baby blue tits a couple of years ago. |

What a lovely day I have had. I met up unexpectedly with an old friend for coffee and then went for a walk in the park at Hatfield House - shady woodlands and hot open spaces with fantastic ancient trees to admire. |

We could learn a thing or two...maybe compulsory nursery for over 50's is the way to the future. With bigger chairs, in case of break sit. _________________ life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans |

I took part in a concert last night. It was a fundraiser for our local hospital stroke unit. There were various styles of music and I was in the U3A Ukulele Band which got a great response with lots of audience participation in well known old and not-so-old songs e.g. Black Velvet Band, Top of the World, Pack up Your Troubles, Morningtown Ride, World Without Love and a Ragtime Medley etc. Good fun. |

I've got 12 guitars and a couple of ukes, Eileen, so I'm pretty much up to scratch...but I will get a uke out and practise more, as it's always guitars for me, not least because there's always one next to me. So there's much scope for improvement on the uke front. I'm scared to keep the good one on display, in case one of the grandkids break it. The other one I let them play with.
I'll have a little go at Bring Me Sunshine, that's for sure. _________________ life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans |

I wonder how long it takes to play the uke by ear? One long term player I asked said he always needs the chord chart to follow. |

Depends on the indivdual, I guess. If I put the time in, I would hope not long, but I have a printed chord chart. and only looked at it for three major chords and a minor. That's how things started with the guitar, many moons ago. My ear/mind tells me where I should go, now. And of course, the more you play, the easier it is.
If only I could play the piano. _________________ life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans |

Like it Becky!
For me was hearing Richard Allinson on Magic FM Drive. Ages since I listened and I always enjoyed his shows on R2 and elsewhere so just hearing his voice cheered me up. He played a lot of 'typical Allinson' tracks too.

Away from Brexit...
Watching this little boy not only cheered me up ..it had me laughing away.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z4-a8MpZmmM
Another thing that cheered me up today was this news.....Eric would have loved it...
It was the scoreline that the late, great Eric Morecambe always used to joke about but had never come true - until now.
East Fife 4 Forfar 5 was the much-loved comedian's idea of the ultimate tongue-twister for anyone trying to read out the football results.
On Sunday, that result finally happened for the first time in the fixture's history - sort of.
The Scottish League Cup Group B tie between the sides went to penalties after a 1-1 draw. And the score in the shootout? East Fife 4 Forfar 5.
Had he lived to see that, it would surely have raised a smile from Morecambe, who came up with the score as a jokey greeting whenever he met his friend James Alexander Gordon, the popular announcer who read the classified results on the BBC for 40 years.
"Eric never called me James," Gordon, who died in 2014, once recalled. "Whenever I saw him over a 20-year period, he would say 'East Fife 4 Forfar 5'. I've got a tape of that."

I had a day in Emsworth yesterday and did a walk I've done many times with an old friend. Afterwards I decided to look for a house where PG Wodehouse had lived. I wandered up and down the road but couldn't spot the blue plaque. There were no pedestrians to ask but then I spotted a chap on his driveway so asked him. "Yes" he said "It's this house and I live here". I then saw the rather pale blue plaque high up on the wall.
He was so pleasant and asked me if I'd like to come in, so I did, on the way noticing the name of the house above the front door was Threepwood (In the Blandings Castle books Lord Emsworth's younger son is Freddie Threepwood). His wife offered me a cold drink and they showed me round the downstairs and the back garden which had a tree which PG would have known. They let me take photos and when I was going out through the front gate the chap appeared with a rather nice old booklet about PG and his connection with Emsworth. "Here, you can have this" he said.
How amazing that the only pedestrian I saw was the current owner! It certainly made my day. |
