This will definitely be worth a listen, as all three charts had some excellent stuff. 1965 alone: Beatles, Stones, Who, Tom, Cliff, Dylan, Donovan and so much more.
And 1974 was just as good! |

I totally agree Schiz and I recall 1984 was also quite good so I'm looking forward to it especially after last Saturday's show which was probably the worst ever edition

WARNING: I've just looked up the charts for April/May 1984. They contain some appalling songs. I always miss the second hour as I'm out Saturday afternoons, perhaps it's just as well. At least I can enjoy 1965.
I rather enjoyed 1958 last week. Lollipop by The Chordettes is very catchy, and there was Elvis (Jailhouse Rock) and Little Richard (Good Golly Miss Molly). I sometimes think the late 50s were better than (or as good as) the early 60s. They were certainly more outrageous.
As for 2001, I'd recognise none of the songs except the excellent one by Emma Bunton and Nellie Furtado's I'm Like A Bird (Ihave the CD single). |

Or how about going back to the way Dale Winton used to do it a few years ago and give 90 mins to each year?
I've a couple of recordings that included the top album track and more of the climbers and I think maybe a new release(?).

I agree, Helen. 90 minutes for each year would be good, with an album track and new releases of future hits. Like the original POTP with Alan Freeman in fact.

I've just been listening to the Double Top Twenty Show on Smooth and guess what the second hour covered - yes 1984
Normally I would have been quite annoyed but yesterday's POTP was so good that I really enjoyed hearing most of the same tracks again and I'll probably listen on I Player yet again at some stage during the week
I was slightly amused tonight when instead of The Flying Pickets track 'When You're Young and In Love' being played they fouled up and instead played 'Only You' - clearly someone failed to check the production before broadcast and it rather gave away the fact that the show is pre recorded

Most radio station output these days is server-driven, with a running order being created by drag-&-drop playlist creation. When it's time for transmission, the playout system will simply run the saved playlist (containing links, commercials, promos, idents, etc). So any incorrect track that makes it to TX will usually be the result of human error - ie: some numpty dragged & dropped the wrong track!
I was talking to an freelance radio systems engineer working at a station quite local to me recently told me how a network "traffic manager" (that's the name for "commercials placement manager") had assigned the wrong local ads to a group of local stations by one simple mouse-click error! Audiences might have been totally confused - or perhaps given the uniform blandness of most IR stations they probably didn't notice! |

Thought I'd have a look though my recordings of POTP and by chance one of the 90 minute ones with Dale was 30 Apr 65 which aired in 2006, so just a week before Saturday's 65 chart with Tony.
Just listening now and what a superior show. 25 mins of new/climbing tracks and and the no 1 album to come followed by the top 20 for the week - Beatles For Sale and Eight Days A Week.
Top 20 about to start so will be interesting to see how many dropped out during the week.
