Didn't hear much of Ryan today, but Graham's Saturday show is somewhat different from the breakfast show which is what seems to have swung it for him on R2.
I did enjoy him last summer though!

| This Ryan chap is quite good, although I find it difficult to make out some of his words with my naked ear- quite an accent he has. Even with my bionic ear switched on, one or two of his words get lost in the others. I do have the same problem with many of the other presenters (not all though) so it's no biggy- tis the music that really speaks. |

Why can't the BBC give an opportunity to regional British talent or up and coming presenters on Six Music instead of bringing in these foreign imposters no doubt at exhorbitant salaries

I suspect Richard is not doing the shows because he has a book to finish writing, he mentioned the fact when he was on recently.

| 20th May Richard is sitting in for Wogan. Radio 2 do tend to change there cover presenters around every so often. Just as Radio 4 Feedback show mentioned Richard a few months back - Ryan Tubridy takes to the helm - Strange? |

I know Richard is writing as he mentions a few times on Twitter. So they dragged in Ryan to cover because of this? Shame on those who are currently at the station. Possibly they want a fresh voice? |

Who on the station would want to cover for Evans though, it means disrupting their own schedule which isn't always just centred round R2 ?
Seeing as he was here last summer they have hardly just dragged him in Mark. I believe he was popular in Graham Norton's slot.
I can't see a problem but obviously you can. For me anyone other than Evans is a plus as it means I can probably listen when I otherwise wouldn't dream of switching on the radio.

Evans, Madeley, Tubridy - all equally awful 
Seems to be a thing with the Breakfast Show which has gone on for years going back to the days of Wogan with the notable exceptions of JW and RA
Simon Bates for me everytime on the basis he's the least worst option and does play some reasonably good music

Me too Colin! I'm just glad I recorded a lot of his deputising stints. Listened to the odd one and even though news etc is not current the banter and the music is fine and raises a smile even now.

Wasn't impressed with Tubridy (that name is just too close to Turgid for comfort) when he sat in for Ken once - too many lists, like Q magazine.
The Breakfast show should give him more to work with, though.
How good the music is will depend on whether he gets the same producer as Richard Madeley. |

I don't think it matters. Had this been 5 years ago it would have been Wogan doing it, so not much difference. As long as he doesn't keep banging on about the jubilee I'll listen but, nothing at all against the Queen, my feelings about the whole carry on are similar to those on the Olympics. I would dearly love to be away as I was for the Golden one 10 years ago!

Surely would it not have been more appropriate to choose a presenter who was firstly British and secondly who had been around presenting music shows for a significant period of the Queen's reign
- the likes of Tony Blackburn or Johnnie Walker
As for the Jubilee itself I'm not an avid Royalist by any stretch of the imagination but I do think it is appropriate to mark the occasion although I don't understand why this particular date has been selected since the Queen came to the throne in February 1952 and the Coronation was not until the following year so what is the link with June at all?
Can anyone explain - or is it just that they're following what happened in 1977 and 2002 because the weather is generally better in the summer

Surely a Jubilee celebration should be on the exact anniversary of either the accession or the Coronation
After all we hold Armistice Day events on November 11th or at least the nearest Sunday to that date and so far nobody has suggested moving the thing to June in the hope of getting better weather

We had very good weather in the Summer of '77. I had just moved from Devon to a very new Milton Keynes and was covering lots of street parties etc for local TV news. I remember it being consistently hot and I couldn't keep my new flat cool. In fact it was so warm for days on end that we were often forced to retire to one of the local pubs to cool off. |

That would have been an idea. Those two feature in the schedules on the 4th June with Johnnie Walker's Long-Players at Midday and
Tony Blackburn's Diamond Top Sellers at 2pm |

Maybe they couldn't decide which to use. She was Queen in 1952 but not officially until June 1953 until they had the ceremony, so they may have to wait until 2013.
I suppose June 1952-June 2012 is in the middle and fits in with her official birthday |

I'm presuming that he's covering the normal bank holiday breakfast show, as Evans wants it off and there's a 2 day one. Why does the presenter need to be British?
As for why it's when it is will be because the Monday is the nearest day to the coronation which was 2nd June 1953. I'm guessing it was the same for 2002 (I was in Las Vegas so missed it all) and 1977 (in Newcastle where there was a street party).

Well if we're celebrating the Diamond Jubilee counting from June 1953 then that would make the correct date June 2013
And if we celebrate it counting from the day of accession that would have made it February 2012
Either way a date in June 2012 is totally mystifying but I agree the same applied in 1977 and 2002 - It's just completely illogical by any standards

Well, my birthday is in June and I was born in 1952... so me and Queen had a quick word and decided it would be quite fitting for us both... so there...

No... there's something else instead of Graham Norton but I can't remember what. I think it's some sort of documentary series tying in with the Olympics. |

Not exactly the right thing for a Saturday morning IMHO. I seem to recall reading about it as well Ian but I'd rather have Ryan Tubridy than anything else to do with the Oympics!
