After the £20 suit at Asda now they are selling a DVD Player for £9. It's cheaper than some of the DVDs which are on sale in the supermarket.

But is it any good? Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis is always pointing out cheap deals - overlooking the fact there's a good reason they're cheap!

It's apparently the Duraband 1005 - this had been retailed by Walmart (*cough*, sorry, Asda) for £18, the same price as the cheapest Tesco DVD player.

There's also a freely-available 'non-destructive' hack (i.e. via the remote and buttons) for the 1005 model to make it multi-region. Can't really go wrong for £9. Might even buy one as a spare player myself this weekend.

Mr MoneySavingExpert always professes to know which deals are to be had. He rarely gives the impression of knowing what he's talking about...

..... but he continues to talk anyway.

Oh, I dunno - he plugged the Quidco website, which I've already made over £50 from in two months, largely cashback from opening a couple of bank accounts which I only use for Internet transactions and buying stuff through Play.com which I did anyway. If you can get 10p just for doing a search using Kelkoo or Shopping.com then it's money for nothing.

Even if that's the only thing he's done right, it's been worth it for me.

Martin Lewis is becoming more of a Money spinning TV and Radio expert, just like Dr Hilary Jones has become more of the face of TV and Radio. Does he still take doctors appointments?

Does Dr Hilary Jones get royalty payments from "My Hero" because they based Piers the doctor so closely on him?
