I'm not sure if I'm allowed to do this (has Mark slept in late?) but the death, following a stroke, has been announced of Hal David, a wonderful lyricist. |

I did post a thread earlier than yours I have removed it..
Both Burt Bacharach and Hal wrote for likes of The Carpenters and Dionna Warwick. Both were one of the greatest songwriting teams - and he leaves a legacy of great songs. Inspirational songwriter.... God Bless. |

Actually I didn't, Colin.
I know Burt Bacharach but the name Hal David escaped me.
I always thought Raindrops Keep Dropping On My Head was a silly song to have in a western movie. _________________ -

What - you'd not heard of the song-writing partnership that was "Bacharach and David"? I'm surprised, John. They were the USA's Lennon & McCartney, in many ways.
BTW, "Raindrops" was a great choice for the film. I always thought it worked really well (for some reason) and we certainly think of the film when we hear the song don't we? |

I was going to write a few words about Hal David and some of his achievements myself but seeing as Colin has said "we ( I presume that is said on behalf of the forum) know who Hal David was and what he achieved, thanks" to Mark's post I'll leave it and post my thoughts elsewhere....
RIP Mr David. |

I know the songs but, through inattention I guess, I've always just associated them with Bacharach not thinking who wrote the lyrics. Ira Gershwin suffers the same fate

It's a great song of course, won an Oscar, but I'm not a fan of anachronistic placing of music in films. _________________ -

It may have been an early example of music "product placement", actually, given that worked wonders for the success of the single. I always liked that sequence, even though it could have in any film.
I can't remember who the singer was (and am on 3G in Hunstanton so can't be bothered to Google for the info). |

This post is slightly disappointing. Colins reply isn't so necessary against me then you wouldn't need to move to another forum. Great shame. Maybe he needs to stop picking holes. |

We is a word regarding the whole forum. I'm sure there are a few who don't know he's work. You have really got to stop as you are pushing people away. |

Perhaps you should read your post previews before posting, Mark! 😳

Nonsense. In this context I'm sure that "we" refers to a majority. |

Well for what it's worth I was not aware of his achievements either. I know the songs but could never have told you who wrote them until now, sad really. |

Sad news a brilliant lyricist.
I did know who he was and his work, but as Bacharach always seemed to get more publicity I'm not surprised that some didn't know.
