As you may be aware, on 7 December 2006, Ofcom's Radio Licensing Committee agreed to allow 102.2 Smooth FM (Greater London) to change its Format. This approval will allow the station's Format to change from delivering a soul-based service during the day with specialist jazz in the evening, to a station targeting over 50s with easy-listening, more news and speech during the day, while retaining the 45 hours of specialist jazz out of daytime.
Magic London was obviously concerned with Smooth’s request as this undeniably creates greater competition for us, however, we’re not afraid of competition, and we’re still gunning for the top spot, with a month of RAJAR still on the go! Emap is a strong supporter of Ofcom's light touch approach to regulation and recognises that, over the course of a licence period, licensees should have some flexibility to reflect changes in audience tastes and interests.
Whilst Emap asked for a greater degree of difference between formats in the London area - in terms of speech content and proportion of music from the pre-1960s - we acknowledge the measures put in place to ensure listener choice is maintained. Should you wish to see more info:

Does this apply to Smooth on DAB, like we get in Jockland?

when I heard Smooth FM on my sister's car radio, going into Bury, they always seemed to be playing Michael Jackson. Did they have a more lenient view of his doings than Radio 2?
I mean what he was alleged to do at Neverland, not Earth Song ! _________________ We made a land where crap is king and the good don't last for long.
