I was recently made aware that the Melody Maker archive was now on line (at the NME website) but I have struggled to successfully register and use the search facility properly, so far doing searches without registering and accessing scans of pages, but not the OCR text which should be available somewhere I'm sure. Put in a well-known name and you get 100's of search results!! Let me know how you get on, go to the archive here: http://www.historyofrockandroll.co.uk/

Thanks for that John - I have a suitcase full of old MM'S from the mid-late 70's, really must get round to looking them out.

I figured out how to read one magazine from page 1 to the end. I had clicked on a decade, but I hadn't scrolled down to find the links to magazines for each year! And then when you open up a magazine you use your mouse to swipe across (horizontally) to the next pages. Easy!

Searching: Better search results for bands and artistes are obtained if a full name is put in inverted commas (DOUBLE quotation marks) like "ken dodd" Razz

As for printing, if they aren't providing OCR text from the scans then printing a page makes too small an image, so you can double click on the paragraph you want and save a screenshot Ctrl-Alt-PrtScn (on some computers) and paste that into a jpeg, then print that. Photos and advertisements can be 'saved' that way.

And wow, a classic cover for Xmas 1968!

Yeah, it's been doing that for weeks. It is thought by some that access has been suspended while some copyright issues are discussed.
