Can't quite believe I've beaten Mark to this but in the latest RAJARS:
'drivetime DJ Chris Evans dropped back 50,000 listeners to 4.83 million.'
This according to the Media Guardian.
How many thousands of listeners has he lost now?

Has he looked down the back of the sofa for these lost listeners? It's amazing what you can find down there. |

Hmmm. I expect fluctuations of 50,000 to 150,000 are probably the margin of error, and I can't really take them seriously. Essentially, the ratings are static from when Walker was doing it.
And no, I can't believe you've beaten Mark either! |

I really am starting to believe that I am out of step with the rest of the world.
Evans show was excellent in Q4, and I thought taking the show on the road plus the Christmas build up would have delivered a better figure for his show. Sadly not it would seem. As Ian said, the same number of people would seemingly listen to drivetime, regardless of who presents it.
However what really puts me in mind of Victor Meldrew is the fact that Steve Wright and Jeremy Vine have gained listeners. Are we really condemned to endure years more of Wright as a consequence? _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

A strong performance by Radio 2 veterans Terry Wogan and Steve Wright helped the BBC extend its advantage over commercial radio with a market share lead of 11.2 percentage points.
After two quarters in which commercial stations have pegged back the BBC, the corporation pulled away in the last three months of 2006 with a share of 54.4%, up 0.1% on the previous quarter.
But commercial radio's share fell over the same period, from 43.6% to 43.2%. The lead is the BBC's third biggest since new measurement systems were introduced a decade ago, according to the latest Rajar figures published today.
The BBC extended its advantage despite quarter-on-quarter losses for both Radio 1 and Radio 4.
Radio 1 breakfast host Chris Moyles enjoyed another record audience, albeit marginally, up from 6.81 million listeners in the previous quarter to 6.82 million in the last three months of 2006.
But overall Radio 1 lost more than 300,000 listeners compared with the previous quarter, down to 10.26 million. It lost 30,000 listeners year-on-year, but saw its share rise from 9.2% to 9.7% because those that stayed listened longer.
Radio 4 lost 120,000 listeners on the previous three months, down from 9.46 million to 9.34 million, and saw its share fall across the year from 11.8% to 11.1%.
Radio 2 was the BBC's biggest riser, adding 530,000 listeners on the previous quarter to 13.27 million. Year on year, it was up rather less - adding 20,000 listeners - and was still short of the station's record audience of 13.43 million in the second quarter of 2004.
Steve Wright was the station's star performer, adding 350,000 listeners on the previous quarter to 6.51 million, while Terry Wogan increased his breakfast audience by 330,000 to 7.98 million, although both DJs' year-on-year increases were marginal.
Radio 2's lunchtime presenter Jeremy Vine also added listeners compared with the previous three months, up 210,000 to 5.77 milllion, but drivetime DJ Chris Evans dropped back 50,000 listeners to 4.83 million.
Radio 2's share of 15.8% - still the biggest of any UK radio station - was up from 15.5% in the previous quarter, but down from 16% in the same period last year.
Radio 5 Live also increased its audience, up 100,000 on the previous quarter and 130,000 year on year, to 5.85 million. The news and sport station's share rose from 4.2% to 4.4%.
Radio 3's audience was up year on year from 1.97 million to 2.03 million. Its share of the audience rose across the 12 months from 1.2% to 1.4%
Virgin Radio was the only one of the three main national commercial stations to increase its audience on the previous three months.
The music station's total audience grew nearly 100,000 to 2.47 million, although its share dropped back across the year from 1.6% to 1.5%.
Classic FM was down around 140,000 listeners on the previous quarter to 5.76 million, with a share of 4.2%, the same as its share in the previous three months, but down from 4.3% last year.
TalkSport, which recorded a record audience of 2.27 million in the previous quarter, slipped back slightly to 2.24 million, down 26,000. Its audience share was steady at 1.8%. |

Jeremy Vine...5.77 million
Chris Evans....4.83 million.
I don't think JV is quite on the same pay as CE but Evans is certainly not setting the world on fire is he? _________________ The Voice of reason in a MAD MAD world |

They are not that bad Helen, It does take time for someone to attract the listeners to a new format and different person presenting it. It happens at all radio stations all the time. He will blend in and it will take time. |

Not sure why you are cheering? The figures seem to suggest that the average person doesn't care who presents the show. The figures are almost identical to last quarter or last year come to that. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

How many years will it take for Evans to bed in? Listeners are seeing sense and not listening.
Ernie,
I would have thought you would know why I'm cheering as I loathe Chris Evans and what he has done to Drivetime. I'd rather sit in silence than endure him, as I'm sure you already know.

Yes I know your opinion well enough by now. My point was though that the audience seems to be much the same as it was in Walkers time, so if you are hoping that he is going to be taken off I think you will be waiting (in silence ) for quite a while.
I had hoped his shows numbers would rise. Most objective people would say that his show was stronger in Q4, with the house shows and the Christmas build up, but it seems that roughly the same amount of people tune in regardless.
Radio 2 seems generally to be bouncing along at the same level for quite a while now. Wogan goes down 300,000 last quarter, he gets them back this quarter. Evans grew by 35,000 last quarter, he lost 50,000 this quarter. Not sure if much fundamentally has changed.
When Steve Wright's audience increases I scratch my head. Judging by the comments on here and the old message board I didn't expect that. Some body loves the show after all it seems. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

The increase in Steve Wright's numbers are the folk tuning in early, so as not to miss Drivetime ....... the Drivetime figures are "as you were" because it's just not fashionable at the moment to be overly popular- and of course, it helps to keep Chris on his toes. You must have heard of the "I'm a secret Drivetime Listener" campaign.... .......yes.. of course you'll deny it...
it wouldn't be secret otherwise......
don't say it.... I know ... |

The Rajar figures always seem to me to be samey samey, if you study how the figures are collected it's daft people trying to read anything into 1% differences.
Who can say if Evans kept most of Walker's audience; Evans was predicted to lose 1 million listeners. If he did then he has won 1 million from elsewhere etc etc who flippin' knows
I suppose we have to wait six months before we know if Alan Titchmarsh is a real success

It goes to show who ever is presenting the shows for either Steve or Chris the numbers dont decrease.
The station is increasing partly with the younger feel to it be introduced. I hear a lot of younger listeners tuning in now.
Basically Lesley and her team are producing shows for all types of listeners from young, to middle age and so on. |

So lets get this right, CE is paid perhaps double what JW was, has had unlimited promotion a small fortune on new jingles etc and taking his 'show' out on the road, and he gets + or - a nats cock, the same listener numbers as Mr Walker? Well done Chris |
