Becky: Gallagher and Lyle have a greatest hits CD out which would be worth getting. It includes most of their well known stuff except, unfortunately, Layna which is a wonderful ballad. Try to listen to that song, and I Believe In You, if you can. |

My Track of The Day is from the new Peter Frampton 7-track EP called "Hummingbird In A Box" which is currently playing as a featured album on Radio Caroline. Just played is "Shadow Of My Mind" which has Frampton demonstrating a beautiful bluesy picking style on electric guitar. He really has matured with age. It's not available on the iTunes UK store yet but as soon as it is I'll grab it.
I doubt whether any tracks will feature anywhere on daytime Radio 2, but that's hardly surprising is it! |

I Believe In You is a another gem,Schiz....I couldn't find Layna apart from a 30 second burst of it on Amazon but in trying to find it I came across this little beauty by them ...
Remember Then

Lovely songs from these two,Schiz.....I'm looking at them and their music through different eyes....thanks for recommending
My track of the day is one of the choices of the lovely Guy Garvey on this morning's Desert Island Discs...
Picture In A Frame by Tom Waits.

He can make the most simple of songs sound special. |

The song I'm choosing for my track of the day today is one that brings back many happy memories of the brilliant programme, Northern Exposure.
Jolie Louise ~ Daniel Lanois
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3ikhSMmIB0
If I'm being honest it is probably my track of the day more because it reminded me of Northern Exposure but it is still a nice sound and I enjoyed hearing it again.
I have the soundtrack from the programme,on a tape, tucked away somewhere.
Chris, the rather cool DJ on the town's radio station, played some great tracks on the programme.
Malcolm Gladwell (who I've never heard of before) chose it as one of his tracks on Desert Island Discs |

My track of the day is from today's Desert Island Discs.
Roger Graef, a delightful guest, chose the wondrous Pearl Fisher's Duet sung by Jussi Björling & Robert Merrill as one of his discs to take with him to his island.

My choice today is...
Au fond du Temple Saint from the Pearl Fishers. It is a sublime piece of music.
Damian Lewis chose it as one of his Desert Island Discs
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5PYt2HlBuyI
Listening to it on Youtube I was intrigued to see that David Byrne and Rufus Wainwright had made a version of this...it's a creditable try but not a patch on the above. |

My track of the day is Undertow by Genesis from their wonderful And Then There Were Three album. Don't think I've ever heard it on the radio before. It was one of the choices of this week's guest on Desert Island Discs, Helen Browning who is a farmer and and Chief Executive of the Soil Association |

Thought I'd revive this thread (took me long enough to find it!)! Just listened to 'I'm Happy Just To Dance With You' from the Beatles followed by 'Just One Look' from Doris Troy on 181 FM Good Time Oldies which is an internet station.
Both great tracks!

My track of the day today is by accident. I listened again to SOTS and when it had finished another programme came on.
Network Gold...(???) Travel back in time as John Platt plays the best pop music from the 1950s to the 1980s. Never heard of it.
I left it to see what came on..and Let Me Be The One by The Shadows followed..I've always loved it. |

I always liked that one as well Becky.
The radio player doesn't stop at the end of the programme now which I discovered the other week. I was recording something and didn't like what they put on next so I had to re-do it. Previously my recorder stopped when the sound did so I could go away and do something else!
I discovered there is a way to stop it though. On the page where you listen again, if you scroll down a bit you will see 'Coming Up Next' then to the far right of that you will see 'Auto Play', which is set to be on and shows a 'tick'. Click on it and it will disable it, although it does seem to come back every now and then so it's worth checking once in a while.
Hope that makes sense!

You're welcome Becky.
You were lucky with what they served up next. I got some 'noise' from Radio 1, why on earth they would think I'd want to listen to that. ................ _________________ 88 - 91 FM this is Radio 2 from the BBC!

My Track of the Day today is not a straightforward pick. I was listening to a drama on Radio 4 and this track was playing in the background.
That's When Your Heartaches Begin by Elvis....haven't heard it in ages. Like Cliff, I love lots of the early tracks by Elvis and this one is a beauty.
Courtesy of Wiki..
"That's When Your Heartaches Begin" is a song recorded by Elvis Presley on at least three occasions, most notably the first time in July 1953, when it was one of the two first songs recorded by Presley at Sun Records for a demo acetate he allegedly gave to his mother as a birthday present.
He would later revisit the song on at least two occasions, the first during the famous Million Dollar Quartet sessions on December 4, 1956, and the second when he re-recorded the song in January 1957 as a B-side to "All Shook Up". |

My Track of the Day today comes from Desert Island Discs..(A good episode with Tom Kerridge).. Proof from I Am Kloot. I love I Am Kloot and was reminded, listening to them, how much a fan of John Bramwell's voice I am. Will probably be a bit of an I Am Kloot listening fest today...decorators in, so hope they're fans too.. |

Very enjoyable programme all round. |

2 Tracks of the Day today from one programme - greedy I know, but I couldn't separate them.
Where Is My Mind - The Pixies. Into My Arms - Nick Cave.
An excellent edition of Desert Island Discs - musically and guest wise
Daniel Radcliffe (is Harry Potter really 30!!) was a lovely guest on the programme this morning.
He also chose, for his first pick, Bring Me Sunshine from Eric and Ernie. Boy, do we need oodles of that just now. |

An unusual source for my Track of the Day on another station today.
Listening to Adrian Chiles on Radio 5 Live talking to Michael Henderson author of That Will Be England Gone: The Last Summer of Cricket and this song came up and some of it was played. That in itself was lovely enough but then Adrian played it again as a backdrop to a commentary from John Arlott.
Talk about perfection.
Roy Harper and the Grimethorpe Colliery Band with When An Old Cricketer Leaves The Crease.

My favourite track of the day was on 181FM (or I think it's now called DOTFM??).
I'd just switched over and the first track I heard was 'I Saw Her Standing There' from of course the Beatles but it was then followed by 'Heatwave' from Martha and the Vandellas another of my all time favourites.

The archives of Desert Island Discs are a veritable treasure trove,LEE.
Bang up to date I enjoyed listening to Arsene Wenger's discs last Sunday as well as stories from his life.
My Track of the Day from another station - I'd have to pick Terry Wogan and his Floral Dance which was on Gerald Jackson's Unforgettable programme on Radio Lancashire.
Just brings back lovely memories of him.
Great choices Helen! |

A couple Tracks of the Day from Owen Money's Solid Gold Sunday - a firm favourite since I found it a few months ago - on BBC Radio Wales. Dolly Parton's Here You Come Again and Cliff Richard's The First Time. It was going to be the one from Dolly and then I heard the one from Cliff so had to be the pair of them.
Owen is one of a dying breed - he was in a group in the Sixties so knew a lot of other acts from back then and includes many little anecdotes in the programme - he knows his music and more - enjoyable listening! |

My Track of the Day is from Desert Island Discs and is the very beautiful Benedictus by Karl Jenkins from his The Armed Man : A Mass For Peace album.
It is one of the picks of Claire Horton who is a charity worker.

Track of the Day on another station today, for me, is the lovely Castles In The Air from Don McLean.
It was on Radio Lancashire's Unforgettable which has a new presenter in John Gillmore. These last few weeks it has felt as if this is my very own request programme as many of the records played are great favourites of mine. |

It's so good when you find a programme that you can identify with isn't it Becky! I'm hopping all round the dial at the moment.
My track of today, not really appropriate weatherwise but nice all the same, is Raining by Carly Simon. Jason Reynolds played it on 121fm drive just before 7 as his reflection of the day track. It's from 1995 and I'd not heard it before.
I'm enjoying Lynn Parsons on Magic at the earlier time of 7pm as we usually finish tea and do the clearing up. She previously followed Richard Allinson at 8pm.

It really is,Helen.
As I said there is a new presenter and although I liked it before the majority of the records that are selected now (mostly requests) are just my cup of tea. Long may it continue!
I've not heard the Carly Simon record before. (Just popped onto Youtube for a listen) She has a really lovely voice. |

Track of the Day comes from Tracey Ullman's choices on Desert Island Discs. You Wont See Me by The Beatles from their Rubber Soul album.
Love it when a lesser known track, from them, is played. |

My Track of the Day is Rio by Michael Nesmith - one of the Inheritance Tracks chosen by the lovely Kenneth Branagh on Radio 4's Saturday Live this morning.
Kenneth told of his link with Michael and his choice of Rio for the soundtrack of his film Peter's Friends back in 1993. |
