A very good show this evening (2 Feb), Ken Bruce sounding very relaxed and poking fun at anything and anybody.

The musicals numbers might not be to my taste (over-the-top-US) but I can see (hear) that Aimee Atkinson has a bright future ahead. The Geoff Eales Trio, jazz ensemble, are excellent; I'd have them down our local tomorrow Smile

Nice to hear again that, since his death in 2002, Stanley Black has not been forgotten, though I feel that arrangements of James Bond themes are on FNIMN rather too often.

FNIMN is on at a good time, it ensures I don't go up the pub too early - my missus is already there Rolling Eyes

I've only heard the second half, but it's been great. Wonderful arrangement of the Harry Potter themes, and that female singer is fantastic - I can't make my mind up about Wicked, but she really did a belting rendition.

And, of course, the brilliant Ken Bruce being as superb as ever. I really do think he's the most under-rated of all Radio 2's presenters.

His pay may not be the highest, but his level of professionalism puts him at or Very near the top.

Indeed it does but at the BBC professionalism is indirectly proportional to pay

Don't you think as soon as Ken found out what everyone else was paid he and his agent were into Lesley Douglas' office asap? Particularly as his audience had gone up!

Bet he's on a better salary now....

I suspect his audience figures dropped this quarter as we haven't heard anything about him. It's only Chris Evans' figures that are published if they decline.

Note that next week's BBC FOUR radio tribute schedule includes a repeat of televised FNIMN compered by Roy Hudd:

Part of Radio Week. Roy Hudd joins the BBC Concert Orchestra for the first TV recording of this radio favourite. With Janis Kelly and Alasdair Malloy and conductor John Wilson.

On Friday and repeated Saturday.
