Radio 4
Isy Suttie who is championing Jake on this week's Great Lives programme hadn't even heard of him 9 months ago until a friend sent her one of his albums for her birthday ...she is now an avid fan.
Jake Thackray hated being known as the north country Noel Coward, but at the height of his fame the description stuck. His songs are very British, but his influences were European - Georges Brassens and Jacques Brel.
Nominating Jake Thackray is Isy Suttie, Dobby from Peep Show and star of the A-Z of Mrs P.
The presenter is Matthew Parris.

I shall try and catch this. I know how influential Thackray was, but I don't know much about him. |

I remember watching Jake come up with a witty topical song every week on Bernard Braden's TV show "Braden's Week". I was listening to a programme about him yesterday on Radio 4 in which he was referred to as the Noel Coward of the North. I thought that was a very good description - and I'd never likened him to Noel Coward but now I get the comparison completely. |

Can't remember the full lyrics, but Jake wrote one song about his cat being kidnapped with the classic line "some bleeder got Freda". Takes imagination to come up with that line(' ') _________________ Standing on Ray Moore's shoulders |
