I was as shocked as the Absolute Radio presenter a few minutes when learning of the death today of comedy actor Rik Mayall. I've loved his work - especially as part of The Young Ones and then alongside Ade Edmondson in Bottom, etc.
Wow. Another one bites the dust...

This is a shock, he was quite unique, a sad loss to comedy. _________________ -

Shocking news. Brilliant in The Young One and Blackadder. |

Great loss.
Cause of death remains a mystery, for some reason. |

The young ones was just superb i had to ask my parents to let me stay up and watch it and that was part of the thrill and then going into school the next day and all you talked about was the show
I am so gutted at this moment _________________ I found out how you can hurt an insect. It's the bees knees |

Given he was epileptic it's possible he might have had a seizure of some sort.
whatever the cause it's very sad news, he was extremely gifted and had a very impressive CV.

Interestingly, my son and I were saying only the other day that we really ought to have a day devoted to watching "Bottom" over a few beers. He absolutely loved those barmy series and so did I. |

Such a shame. I loved his Rick character in The Young Ones. He had that very bad quad bike accident some years ago so perhaps that had some bearing on his death.
Newsnight had a tribute to him and one clip was from Jackanory. A lovely expressive face for storytelling. |

I'm sure Rik would have appreciated and had a jolly good laugh at this plaque that somebody put up in tribute to him.
