So the fat controller is on £236k a year-with perks a Total Remuneration of £244,565 pa as at Sept 2014.
£90k a year more than the PM.
Bob you are a doing a great job-not.
IMHO the man is slowly but surely destroying Radio 2. |

I think that's what most of us here have been saying for several years Mark 
And sadly I can't see things going in the right direction with the current BBC mentality and him in charge
I think that other areas of broadcasting are also deteriorating in much the same way - whilst I don't listen to Radio 3 very often I know lots of people are complaining much as most people do here about Mr Shennan - and quite rightly
It seems that there is little quality in any aspect to everyday broadcasting these days

Same is being said about Radio 3, where departing controller Roger Wright was/is earning £227k a year. He was/is in charge of 425 people and running Radio 3, the BBC Proms, BBC Concert Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Singers and BBC Symphony Orchestra.
So much of R3's morning schedule mimics ClassicFM but it is losing listeners not gaining them
This year 6music rajar audience figures were higher than Radio 3 !
The new R3 controller Alan Davey takes over in January but won't run the Proms.

Freedom of information the BBC having to release salaries. Majority of the top BBC brass are on more than MPs and the PM. That is our licence fee paying for that. Blimey the listeners get shot down in flames too if we moan about the state of the beeb. I wouldn't like to think how much Donny Osmond received for covering Sunday Love Songs the other week, and they want to cut back on live overnight shows to bring in repeats. I suppose its Magic gain for losing Richard.
I wouldn't say he's doing a bad job, just tweaking and improving the stations output. |

But is he improving the station's output? Not in my opinion. I'm listening to much less R2 nowadays than I was in the latter half of the 1990s & early 2000s, when I would be listening nearly all day. Now it's just Ken Bruce & Drivetime from the midweek daytime shows. Otherwise it's the specialist shows later on & at the weekend, of course that depends on the show's content.

Not in my opinion either. He seems hell bent on destroying the station and I hardly listen in at all during the week now. I was unlucky enough to be wide awake just after 5am on Monday and the Vanessa Feltz creature only played two tracks in 15 minutes. She also has a most annoying way of talking at you. Had I been awake a bit sooner I would have listened to JW for the second time. He has a nice voice to listen to and it is as if he is talking just to you.

That's my other point. While these are shows that I do enjoy when they are first broadcast at the weekend, I don't really want to hear them again in the small hours of a midweek morning (after all I can recap anything I missed on I-player!) especially when I was previously having a laugh and interacting with Alex Lester in a live show. I was almost envious of the night shift in the early part of this century, they had 6 hours of excellent broadcasts to help their antisocial hours go by with three hours of Janice Long followed by another three hours of Alex Lester. How things are changing, sadly very much for the worse.

Yes I agree with you, it seems that there is plenty of money for these so called celebs but none for anyone who can actually present a show with any knowledge or feeling for the job.

Well that's it, why does R3 now have to have a 'chart' in the morning, they are copying ClassicFM. And why a morning quiz with tweets, right, mimicing ClassicFM.
And they can make a bad job of mimicing ClassicFM, Rob Cowan gets so confused with the internet communciations that he has been known to cock up the quiz, even ClassicFM doesn't do that.
The Breakfast Show? The incisive comments on music played last week, from R3's 'professional broadcaster' Clemency Burton-Hill included:
"Fantastic!"
"Fantastically brilliant"
"Wonderful"
"Blew my socks off!"
"Doesn't get better than this!"
and one morning when the microphones were faulty she apologised as we would have to listen to music for a while......
You know sometimes ClassicFM is better!

Essential Classics has a music quiz and a special guest picking their favourite pieces of music. That's not nicked from Classic FM, it's nicked from Ken Bruce!

Wow, how dare the presenter enjoy the music they play! Isn't that what we complain about on Radio 2 - that the presenters are just celebs who don't care about the music? Besides, it's not the talking it's the music and there's tons more variety on Radio 3 than Classic FM. |

After SOTS (Saturday morning) I was listening to R3 'CD Review' but then flicking from R3 to ClassicFM (Alan Titchmarsh). R3's CD Review is a programme for someone who 'listens' to music and requires careful listening, in the main part they play excerpts from several recordings for comparison ('Building a Library') and in other sections play excerpts from new releases etc. are played.
Classic FM, and the Titchmarsh show, also play 'excerpts' but differently, they play for example the 3rd movement of a four movement symphony, then a movement from a piece by Chopin, then a Handel aria etc etc
So, at least R3's Saturday mornings are listenable. I was only flicking stations as I was doing something else and didn't want to hear Richard Strauss' oboe concerto same excerpts half a dozen times.
Quite apt this: One of Titchmarsh's listeners e-mailed or tweeted this morning: 'Thanks Alan your music this morning helped me clean the kitchen cupboards'.
Yes, ClassicFM does have its uses

| I do listen to LBC in the mornings and across the day. Ken Bruce l enjoy, tune into Jeremy Vine, Tony Blackburn maybe Steve Wright, Graham Norton, etc. I also tune into Heart, Smooth and Magic. A mix bag of Stations. This is because l can even though l pay the licence fee. That's my choice. Cause l might not listen to someone on R2 dosnt mean l hate them, just enjoy something different. I have got into talk radio a lot. |
