Hi All, it was 2006/7 when I last posted Richard Allison was on the cusp of disappearing and Radio 2 was going down hill. Since them I've got married and now have twin boys aged 3 and a half. last couple of weeks had a chance to put radio on instead of cbeebbies in-between bouts of seep!!
I liked listening today, it's a far cry to what I'm used to and I'm still not sold on Liza track - great on Just a minute, but a real radio presenter...not sure yet. Great to hear Tony Blackburn (I still remember the infamous girlfriend split on radio back in 70's!!) Not a bad day. So...what have I missed and where can I find Richard Allison????
Ps loved reading these boards seeing familiar names _________________ Some say he once threw a microwave oven at a tramp and that all his potted plants are called 'Steve'.....all we know is, he's called 'The Stig!'. |

Hello 'AndyAndy2'.
Well a lot has happened since the mid 2000s, most of it not good. A change of Radio 2 controller brought back Richard Allinson into the Radio 2 fold in the small hours of the weekend mornings for a few years after Lesley Douglas' axe, only for Bob Shennon (current R2 controller) to weald his own axe on him!! Richard can now be heard on Magic doing their 'drivetime' show. In Richard's old weekend slots we now have (Sat) Huey Morgan & (Sun) Bob Harris, if they move his show any further foreward, he'll become a daytime presenter! If you're a night worker, where once you had 6 hours of great broadcasting from midnight - 6:00am Mon-fri, courtesy of Janice Long followed by Alex Lester, these two great broadcasters now share one programme, After Midnight which runs from midnight - 3:00am, over the whole week. Monday - Thursday it's Janice Long & Friday-Sunday it's Alex Lester. At least they are still with Radio 2. The rest of the time (Mon-Fri) is spent with repeat airings of programmes you heard over the weekend. If I were a night worker, then I would now be feeling very short-changed & dissatisfied with overnight Radio 2. Sadly the slide downhill is continuing apace. Where I was listening most of the day in the latter 1990s - early 2000s, I listen to Radio 2 very little these days. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

Great to see you back
I enjoy Lisa Tarbuck, better than the old R1 types we have filling up the schedule, including Tony Blackburn who I wish would just give up his attempts at jokes, he wasn't funny in the 60's, and just play the records |

Well thanks guys. Maybe I'll give Liza another go. Really sad to see how things have changed - not for the better and this forums really reflect that. Hope you're all well and I'll check in regularily.
Cheers.
Oh...and maybe I should change my avatar!!! _________________ Some say he once threw a microwave oven at a tramp and that all his potted plants are called 'Steve'.....all we know is, he's called 'The Stig!'. |

Hi Andy
Good to see you back here again. So many changes as you say but I don't think it is only Radio 2 that is having them sadly.
As Nod says Liza is good, a little bit mad but she plays a real mix of music most weeks.
If you want Richard Allinson you'll have to try Magic FM on the DAB from 5pm on a weekday. I occasionally listen, he goes through until 8pm, but I quite like Drive Time with Simon Mayo although Johnnie Walker was better!
Hope you'll be back when time permits!
H
PS the football team isn't doing that well either is it........... _________________ 88 - 91 FM this is Radio 2 from the BBC!
I said it live on air in the studio with Jeremy Vine on 10/3/2005 |

Hello Andy
Not surprising you haven't had much time for the radio (or anything come to that!) with twin boys. |

Hello Andy,
Welcome back - although I'm afraid the board has died off a bit. Most of don't really listen to Radio 2 as much as we did and what we do hear we're not that passionate about.
Dunno about anyone else, it can still delight me and is my first choice but it's a shadow of what it once was and knowing what a truly great station it could be is a bit depressing. |

Thanks Helen, Becky , Ian.
I agree with your statement Ian. I'm more into the documentaries rather than shows but hopefully I'll get back in to them.
Becky, twins really keep you on your toes, hardly anytime for 'me' stuff but they are lovely too.
Helen, thanks I'll try to Find Richard - had to player his early show but time to listen was the issue.
So may good remarks about Liza - I'll listen some more.
Great to be back and glad you're all still here. _________________ Some say he once threw a microwave oven at a tramp and that all his potted plants are called 'Steve'.....all we know is, he's called 'The Stig!'. |
