Anyone watch this last night? It was two hours of a slow journey along the Kennet and Avon Canal from Top Lock near Bath to the Dundas Aqueduct.
There was no presenter, no voice-over, no music, no clever-clever editing - in fact no editing at all because the camera was apparently fixed to the bows and simply filmed as the boat went along its leisurely journey with only the sound of low engine noise, lapping water, bird calls and the occasional barking dog on the towpath.
It was shot as a continuous take and only cut away at the end to show an aerial shot of the boat going over the aqueduct.
It was beautiful programme and at times it was like drifting through a painting. |

As a fan of the canals, I am hoping it doesn't make too many people want to go boating.
What was painfully evident was the extent to which the canals, as a source of cheap housing, are at times becoming little more than a floating shanty town. |

I recorded it and have yet to watch it. I have seen all of the recent programmes about canals with Prunella Scales and Timothy West, plus the ones with John Sergeant. A canal boat holiday definitely appeals to me! _________________ Pirate Johnnie Walker played my request on 11 April 2009 |

Well, I would certainly recommend it, Angela.
As you are in North Yorkshire, you have some excellent options not too far away.....
One of our holidays (the Warwickshire Ring) started 20 mins from home, but still felt like visiting another country. |
