The following week Mark Goodier is covering. They can obviously not risk Alex staying the weekend in the big smoke.

At least Pete Mitchell hasn't been dusted down and polished for the slot.

I thought he drove to London the last time he covered for Ken as it's the middle shift? Ken does it everyday from Oxford.

I don't think Alex was driving to London everyday last time. That would be a bit of a pain, wouldn't it?

And I don't know where Ken Bruce lives but it's been made perfectly clear many times that he uses public transport to get to work and doesn't drive there.

Ken lives in Oxford after moving there last year, and uses the Train and drives sometimes as he's mentioned this sometimes.

Richard Allinson drives to Oxford to present his Saturday and Sunday shows.

Know doubt Mark Goodier will walk to work as he lives in London. Jeremy Vine runs to work every Thursday as announced on his show. Steve Wright says he walks through the parks to work, scary if you meet him, just dont say Love the show!!

Alex didn't mention travel at the end of his show this morning but said something to the effect that he'd be learning the rules of Popmaster! Smile

Why in this day and age is Alex Lester travelling to London and Tim Smith travelling to Birmingham just to do a radio show ?. Don't they have studios in many places ?. John Peel used to do his show from home didn't he ?

If the DJ doesn't travel, the production team will have to. Although Tim Smith sounds as if he doesn't have one...

It's probably internal politics - the regions have to provide a certain amount of hours, and if they provide any more (or any less) the other regions get annoyed.

The only exceptions appear to be when Ken (say) is in Leeds doing Countdown, but even then he just sits in a studio talking while Charles Nove cues the records back in London.

He travels from Hastings to the BBc studios - he likes public transport, saves on petrol money
