The ATP Finals are being played in London this week and are on the BBC. Federer lost to Nishikori last night and looked out of sorts. Cilic plays Zverev this pm and Djokovic vs Isner this evening.

Such a shame the semi final match ended the way it did, this afternoon, with some of the crowd booing Zverev. Sad They should all be ashamed of themselves He handled it superbly well.

Good to see Annabel Croft putting them in their places. Well done to her too.

I didn't know much of this young man before this week but I'm looking forward to seeing more of him.

I agree, Becky, they were appalling. It's easy to forget he's only 21, the youngest in this competition. He's an excellent player, I've been watching him over the last couple of years, it will be interesting to see how he does with Lendl.

He also has Jez Green, Andy Murray's ex trainer, working with him. I saw an interview with him and he was saying they are working to ensure they look after his body as he matures, especially as he is so tall.

I would love to see him win but think Djokovic is playing too well.

I watched the match this evening and was so pleased for Zverev. He is such a mature and likeable chap and is certain to be a Grand Slam winner of the future, after the way he beat Federer yesterday and Djokovic today.

How odd that his mike was cut off during his speech in order to present him with the champagne. He dealt with it well, saying that although he was talking a lot he hadn't quite finished (i.e. he hadn't thanked the fans yet)

A surprise eh Red,with a well deserved win for Sascha...a very well spoken, articulate young man who seemed as much at home holding a microphone as he does holding a tennis racket. After 4 all in the first set there was only one player in it.

Still with tennis I watched the film Battle of the Sexes the other night...the story behind the tennis match between Billy Jo King and Bobby Riggs. Interesting and entertaining ...the women had it tough back then. I always enjoyed listening to Jack Kramer on the BBC at Wimbledon.. saw him in a different light in this...not a very favourable one, at that. Rolling Eyes

Poor old Andy. Sad It must be gutting to have to retire from something you love doing so much.

Said today, after his match, that he could still return to Melbourne so in his mind he hasn't given up,quite yet.

Lovely tributes, after the match today, from his peers. Cool

Apparently Andy has been questioning Bob Bryan very closely about his recent hip operation as he is back to playing doubles with his twin brother and Andy would be having a similar operation.

Dan Evans had a good match against Roger and though he lost in three sets the first two were tiebreakers. I do hope he is back on the straight and narrow now regarding recreational drugs. He has potential as a player.

Thursday 17th:
What a good match between Konta and Muguruza but what a ridiculous time to play, starting at half past midnight and not finishing until 3.15am. Well played both but a shame it ended with the wrong result for us Brits.

The previous match was a humdinger with Zverev beating Chardy in 5 sets. Zverev gave a lovely on-court interview afterwards - what a charming young chap he is.

A fun afternoon yesterday of music and tennis at Wimbledon to mark the re-opening of Wimbledon’s No.1 Court as the All England Club showcases and tests a new retractable roof.

I didn't know it was on ...was looking for the cricket and found this instead!

Lovely to see some of the veteran players going head to head.

Sad to hear Sue Barker talk about the passing of Paul Hutchins - he was a stalwart of British tennis.

Becky, I am watching a few games at a time. They are still all pretty nifty players and it is highly entertaining. I do worry about the musicians and their instruments though as they are awfully close to the action.

That was quite a battle today between Kyle Edmund and Jeremy Chardy, postponed at 5-5 in the final set because of failing light.

Well, it has been bucketing down here in Hampshire this afternoon. There were some tempting matches scheduled for today but it looks as if it is all over for today. Stan the Man was due to play our Dan at 5.30pm but it doesn't look hopeful but I shall check later on.

Sensational tennis today. Dear "old" 37 year old Feliciano Lopez beating teenager Canadian Felix Aliassime in the singles, then he and Andy finishing off their match and beating Evans and Skupski, then staying on court to beat the current holders Kontinen and Peers. Lopez is going to be a busy chap tomorrow, playing in both finals. Great to see Andy playing and moving so well.

Some great tennis to end the week - thoroughly enjoyed it. Cool

Shame the other Brit had to lose but it really was lovely seeing Andy playing again.

A Fever Tree hamper - wonder what's in that and why did Andrew (he doesn't half talk some drivel sometimes) Castle say the prize money in dollars?

It was such a wonderful afternoon of tennis. How lovely for Feliciano at 37 to be both singles and doubles champion, and it was great to see Andy enjoying himself on court. Joe Salisbury was impressive - he was so quick around the court. Years of playing US college tennis seems to be of great benefit to various players' ability, including Cam Norrie.

Andy's quest for a mixed double's partner could be at an end.

Miranda Hart on Twitter

Joyous. We’ve missed you @andy_murray You say you haven’t found a mixed doubles partner so this is me formally putting my hat in the ring. I’m VERY tall and the extra weight means I’m very grounded emotionally and physically. Also a GSOH - useful at stressful points @the_LTA

Judy Murray replies..

Dear Andy, please give this serious consideration. It would be ‘such fun’. Miranda has a remarkable overhead and reach PLUS she would be happy to stand in the tramlines and do what u tell her. Love from Mum x

What a wonderful idea. I like Miranda. I thought she was such a good compere (commere?) at the Royal Variety Performance a couple of years ago. She even had Prince William doing a gallop up in the royal box Very Happy

After the disappointment of Saturday's match between Evans and Sousa today the hopes for a British player, going further, lie with Johanna Konta.

The odds are against Cori Gauff going any further than her match with Simona Halep but the match has still to be played....

Yes,Helen, there have been some really good matches.

Big upset already today. Ash Barty - the No 1 seed is out to Alison Riske, who is ranked just 55 in the world.

I was away in Cornwall last week but still managed to watch some good matches. I didn't know Ash Barty was out. I was pleased that Pella beat Raonic - I am not keen on these giant players who rely on a huge serve from a great height to win a lot of points, although Raonic's movement around the court has improved in the last couple of years.

I saw about half of Konta's match when I arrived home and she is doing really well.

Not her year this year - be interesting to see how her victor, from the other day, goes on against Serena Williams today.

So ... it will be a Serena/Halep final. Halep seems to have a good temperament so it shouldn't be one-sided.

Roger/Rafa tomorrow. They showed some of their final from 2008 this evening but I missed most of it. That was Rafa's pre-twitching era. They both looked so young.

Happy to be wrong - Halep was just superb, never giving Serena a chance. What a delightful woman she is - lovely speech from her at the end....I think she's endeared herself to Wimbledon.

Nice to see Virginia Ruzici in the Romanian's team - I used to like her..

I thought Halep had a good chance the way she has played all tournament. I didn't expect her to win so decisively, she was brilliant.

It really shocked the Pro Serena commentators, yet I don't think Serena, as they said afterwards, has moved well in her matches so it just needed someone to make her run.

Enjoyed Serena's games with Andy yet I was pleased a proper mixed doubles team won, they don't get enough prize money and Serena and Andy have enough nowadays......

I'll be switching channels between the tennis and the cricket. Have to say though, I felt like we had won the final the other day with our magnificent win over Australia. Cool

It's ages since I've heard any mention of Virginia Ruzici as well Becky.

It was a great match and she was so lovely at the end.

The pundits certainly got it wrong! Simona Halep played superbly, chasing every ball, finding good angles and returning balls to Serena which normally would have been winners. She wasn't at all fazed by the Centre Court atmosphere and she was so thrilled that now she can be a lifetime member of the Club. She was a charming winner and as usual Serena was generous and gracious at being defeated.

Now ... tomorrow! Come on, Roger!

What a day of sport that was (I don't count F1 - no time for it).

And yet, I felt so down and deflated, once it was over. My heart went out to The Fed, having been by far the better player, yet finishing runner up to Djokovic yet again. Those two match points he didn't convert, will haunt him forever and a day. Even that first set tiebreak, he should have won comfortably. He'd played unbelievable tennis in the semi and the final. How did he end up losing?

Neither could I summon up the expected joy, when England scraped home against the gallant Kiwis. To me, that was no way to conclude any tournament, let alone a World Cup. Why couldn't they just accept a tie and both teams go away winners? It has to be better and more dignified than winning/losing on boundaries scored. So I just felt sorry for the Kiwis.

I know that's what sport is...ups and downs, but I don't remember feeling that way before, even when England got knocked out in the semi-finals in last year's Football World Cup, by Croatia. Not even when Liverpool just failed in their attempt to win the Premiership last season.
